I want to scale my app on modern, multi-core computers. I know, I'll write everything so that it all runs in a single thread! This is the same fallacy that gets repeated every time node is mentioned. If you're scaling up past a single ma

Earlier I'm pretty sure I saw a 797-day old post on the front page about Github switching to Unicorn. I figured it was some kind of coordinated practical joke by people who were upvoting it.

I don't understand your argument that the software is being supported by SF and Github. Github and SF didn't spend a cent to develop any of those projects; they were created and then hosted there. If I hosted my open source software on my

Yeah, Rails gives beginners a big advantage by generating a huge scaffolding. It clears up a lot of ambiguities about where things go, and as a beginner it lets you explore different things that you can do in Rails.

Is it not a pain when someone starts spamming as you on Reddit and Engadget? You have either go back through a third of the sites you've ever signed up for and change them, or just write them off. I think the latter is somewhat irresponsi

I see this as a classic case of "look, I took your billion lines of awful code and turned it into 4 lines of beautiful code!" but the new code does a tiny subset of the original, and isn't extendable in any of the original ways. Edit: which

I was referring to the software on Github and Sourceforge, not Github and Sourceforge themselves. Some software costs someone money. Lots of it is built for the sake of building it though. You could argue that time people spend building s

Interesting, but demonstrably false. Take a look through Github or Sourceforge. Many, many of the projects are people scratching an itch or just building something for fun. We can argue about the exact percentage, but it's definitely more
