Interesting to read the (linked) article on how they actually built the support: http://blog.newrelic.com/2013/10/22/new-relic-node-js-apps/ Since node's native support won't land until 0.12, d

My parents ride with a group some of whom are in their mid 60s, and have no problem doing 100-150km/day. They are outliers, but it's by no means impossible. The worst part about a random person riding for 7 hours straight is bein

My deployment process does this too. One thing to be careful of is to make sure you're not deploying a different revision than the one you are on locally. For instance, if you have uncommitted changes locally, they will be reflected

Interestingly, you can. Limewire was open source, but charged for a "pro" version. (which was also open source, with the exception of some build files) The biggest problem with all of it was that there were a bunch of scam sites

Unfortunately iOS broke the functionality somewhere around 5.1; it was still broken in 6 and I haven't checked iOS 7 yet. Animated gifs have the same issue: MobileSafari waits until the connection is closed before rendering anything.

But in this case I think they're correct. If the project is abandoned and forks don't ever get merged back in, development is fragmented and you end up having to pick and choose commits from various forks.

Ok, more simply, what about a network partition where the redis machine gets cut off from the RabbitMQ servers? My only point is really just that redis-as-a-queue has some bad failure modes if you aren't careful.

It'd be more nitpicky if the image were Creative Commons-licensed in the first place, but it wasn't. Buzzfeed linking back to the original is just pretending like it's CC and attribution is all that is required. (assuming th

What happens when your RabbitMQ queue goes down and messages start building up in redis? Won't that eventually use up all of the memory on the machine? We followed a similar path using Redis as a queue, and ended up having to write a &

So when the time comes to change the business logic you have stored in the database, do you have to ensure that every possible client that may use that business logic is updated at the same time? You could version your business logic in the

I think some browsers already slow down the render loop in non-visible tabs, but the much nicer solution (if people use it) is the Page Visibility API.

Does anyone know if anyone is working on a standalone version of an event-based system for Chef? I'm not on AWS, but I think an event-based system similar to OpsWorks might have a nice fit between chef-solo and chef-server.

The patents won't be killed if they're valid; it still has to go through the USPTO. Why do you think that killing those patents is not the right approach? Your approach (if it worked) would just incentivize filing more patents to
