The way we have it set up in capistrano, git is used as the distribution mechanism. It offers a lot of flexibility in that you can deploy a tag or a revision hash or whatever without having to worry about consistencies between users'

And of course NEVER put your config in version-control ;) I'm not sure I'd make that blanket statement. Version control seems like a great place for configuration. It allows you to centrally manage configuration details and pr

I'd be surprised if Atlassian inserted that phrase out of malice. I've been told by lawyers more than once that "it's necessary to prevent someone from suing you for doing exactly what they asked you to do". (displ

I hooked one up to the intercom/door unlock system at the office. Most electronics with physical pushbuttons can be disassembled and wired in with a relay for control by the Pi. As usual, be very careful if you're disassembling something u

What if you got around it by instead just registering a domain and pointing it to the heroku api's IP? I'm not sure if heroku's api would be ok with the mismatched Host header, but it would be less moving parts.

That reminds me of DonorsChoose, which connects elementary teachers with people looking to donate. It's unfortunate that many states don't properly fund things like school supplies, but it's a great service nonetheless.

I find the argument compelling, but why do you suppose so many large companies send templates with lots of images? They have easy access to A/B testing, and I imagine if they saw better results with the text-heavy emails they would all swi

If you license under MIT but restrict who can use the software, it's not really MIT. MIT explicitly states that you may use the software "without restriction". The GPL is even more stringent in that it doesn't allow you to further restrict

Your solution works totally fine, but it also involves using an entire computer to run the thing, which may or may not be overkill depending on whether or not you already have a computer that can be dedicated to it. Personally, I prefer th

This seems like a really great use for raspberry pi. I recently finished a project involving a pi + a relay to activate a door buzzer, written in javascript. It was surprisingly simple and straightforward. Besides turning on lights, the c

I agree with both sentences, but don't see the connection between the two. Are you arguing for how the law currently works, or how you would like it to work? Currently, there is no such thing as a journalism license in the US.

The top-level comment is proposing using journalism as a defense against prosecution, not trying to secure press passes to go into the farms and film. A press pass is not a license. Of the court cases I remember, most used a number of fact

It's really, really easy to see "data leak", see an email address, and assume that this is really bad. On the other hand, if you actually look at what these pages are, they're Checkout pages, not Transaction pages. Coinbase sellers generat
