Are you familiar with the hilariously bad 1978 version of Lord of the Rings ? It's animated, but at some points switches to rotoscoped live action to save on costs. And it doesn't even finish the story. https://www.y

What if Uber just gave bar bouncers an app for hailing Ubers and shared a small cut with the bar? They'd just need a Square-like credit card swiper so that customers could pay for the rides individually.

I'm guessing that language was hard-coded into the landing page and got pushed to diasp.org in an update, and nobody noticed. It looks like you can still sign up there by clicking the signup link.

I don't know if it does this, but it's at least possible for the app to retroactively categorize based on metadata added by your browser. Right-click, "Get info", "More info" should tell you the page the file

You may like the documentary Rip: A Remix Manifesto. They have a particularly relevant part where they step through songs from artists like Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones and compare them to the songs they were (heavily) inspired by.

I was also thinking that it would be negligible for slideshow gifs, but the iPhone example went from a 1.5MB gif to a 500KB WebM. Using video means you also remove the 8-bit color restriction that is imposed on gifs. (without hacks, at lea

Defensive patents are not effective against patent trolls, since the trolls do not produce any products. The publications do make sense, though.

I assumed that was a tweak of his similar joke about in-flight wifi. And since many in-flight wifi systems use a combination of air-to-ground and satellite, it is going to space and back in a roundabout way.

Worse than that, it may be that large websites just pay it since they benefit from the barriers to entry it creates for smaller websites. When your ISP has a deal that makes Facebook and Twitter free but all other websites have very strict

It could be that some people use password managers that require pasting. (though many don't) It could lead to people using passwords that are easier to remember if their password manager doesn't work.
