The consequences of a type unsoundness in TypeScript are typically much more benign (an exception typically) than in C (a buffer overflow, arbitrary code execution, etc.). Also the application logic is more visible in TypeScript just due to

We're the same people who founded MakeCode. DeviceScript has a very different target audience (professional TypeScript developers vs students), is easier to port to different architectures, is more tied into VSCode, and is more compati

SPI is now supported (though only on ESP32 right now; PRs are welcome elswhere!), just fixed the docs. DMA is typically bundled with some other driver (like SPI). We do support ADC - there is even a funky way of exposing these nicely as Jac

Exactly! But it's more like 1.50 USD (ESP32-C3 or RP2040 compared to say STM8).

We need to add a doc page about relationship with WASM... In short, WASM was not designed to be interpreted, and definitely not on small devices. The DeviceScript VM bytecode is designed to run directly from flash (read-only memory of which

DeviceScript comes with a source-level debugger for the VM code. Indeed, if you add C code and that crashes it maybe harder to debug than a pure C system, however it wasn't my experience while developing DeviceScript - it was either cl

There are some differences, but broadly correct (eg., the program is precompiled and the experience is definitely the best in VSCode; plus of course different language). However, I heard of uPython being used in production deployments, thou

It should about the same as uPython. There is a few more tricks we can play due to whole program compilation but I don't think we take advantage of that yet.

I guess the question was about board with specs similar to Pi Pico (~264kB of RAM) and the Star64 is more similar to RPi4 (~4GB of RAM).

There are often some RTC registers that get preserved during standby, so you can use that instead of flash or EEPROM.

Same people :) We tried to make DeviceScript closer in semantics to real JS (prototypes etc) and easier to port. You pay with performance.

There are many choices we have made that wouldn't make sense on desktop class cpu... 5 orders of magnitude of difference in RAM size is somewhat significant in design choices :)

Well, if you have a fixed RAM size, you're better off with the largest model you can fit at 4 bits (13B 4b is way better than 7B 16b despite being twice smaller).

.d.ts files are produced by Typescript compiler automatically from .ts files (and can be written manually for .js files). ML signature files are much like .h files and I think for the same reason - to make compiler work easier. Edit: as thi

More specifically, time is almost linear with the size of the type, which can be doubly exponential compared to the program but people don't write such programs.

On STM32 you typically need to go to STOP mode (called deep sleep in places) to get significant power savings. I had F0 and G0 waking up at 100Hz plus on pin interrupts (with maybe 30us latency) consuming 50-100uA (compared to maybe 20mA wi

Typically these SPI screens only work up to 50MHz (which is already way out of spec, which is often 15MHz), there is 5M bits in 640x480x16 so you won't get more than 10fps no matter what you do rendering side. Which is why they often a

There's ESP32-C3. I think it sells in decent volumes. Note sure where did they license the RISC-V core on it (they otherwise use Xtensa). There's probably more parts with data sheets in Chinese only.

It looks like the Tensillica is only DSP. The control core is M0. 1mW is quite low though - typical M0 running at full speed would typically be 10-100mW and they have the neural unit on as well.

If you have ESP (most of them anyways) you don't really need the RP2040 anymore - you can run all your code on the ESP. Also there are all that geopolitical concerns about Chinese networking gear coming with more than you asked for.

nit: MCU is Micro Controller Unit, so for example rp2040 itself. What you mean is "board". Completely right on the power consumption though. The NRF52 is also quite good at limiting power consumption while it's running and au
