Xilinx Kria K26 SOM. It’s a lot of hardware for $199. Lead times are not great but otherwise has a lot of potential. They have a starter kit that’s aimed at vision AI applications and it comes with Raspberry Pi camera compatible interfa

A very bright friend of mine dropped out of high-school, got his GED and moved onto college while we were all still going to high-school. At the time he dropped out, 1989, I felt it was a terrible thing but looking back on it; it was real

I am very tired of having to deal with cookies on just about every site I go to. Almost nobody wants tracking cookies. I’ve noticed many sites it’s hard to tell whether the tracking cookies are enabled or disabled.

P4 programmability is available in Cisco Silicon One so wouldn’t call P4 dead in the water. Cisco Silicon One is meant to go head to head against Broadcom. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/collate

Actually I think P4 programmable switch ASICs such as Barefoot are going to become more prevalent over time and hence features will be available in software.

I spent July 4th, 1993 on the Esplanade in Boston. I won’t forget the loud groan from the crowd around me followed by collective “ewwws” at the sight of some drunk people on a boat falling into the Charles.

Somehow I get the feeling you’re familiar with the jelly donut analogy WRT inertial confinement fusion.

Just for comparison please consider that a jelly donut contains about 1.6MJ.

Optical connectivity for short reach (distance) is pretty well standardized and has been for years at least at 1G and above. The biggest barrier for a home user would be familiarizing oneself with the fact you can’t bend fibers like you

I think we have different definitions as to what constitutes a large array. The ability to create photonic arrays is much more limited than what we have in elections. This is due to the rather large size of the elements (~0.3mm per devic

We’ve been doing this for years with DSP and networking. So kind of ho-hum from a HW perspective. If you ask me the thing that makes these things even remotely interesting is the willingness from the SW side to support new HW architecture

Photonics doesn’t really scale well for this application due to relatively large area requirements and the fact that array size is limited. It’s really better suited to helping with data movement than for computation.

I suspect that as they scale up their costs will increase due to logistics and maintenance costs not necessarily scaling linearly with launches. Furthermore, I suspect that the failure rate will also increase as the launch frequency goes

The market sized the fabs and pricing pressure led to the fabless business model and fab consolidation. If the market economics of race to the bottom don’t change, the taxpayers will be on the hook for subsidizing these facilities and the

What does a “normal” physics simulator mean? Is it supposed to have less scrutiny because it’s “AI” based?

A computer simulation by definition is not exact because it is discretized. However it is still possible to solve mathematical formulae and use them to validate the AI based solution. This is done every day in the physical infrastructure

It’s not correct to say that our DOT standards are out of date. In fact there is some debate about the Snell standard vs the DOT standard. The area is around the helmet impact rating. A higher rated impact helmet is generally more rigi
