It's strange but I went the other way. I started hating MS because of working in .NET. Basically, if something wasn't blessed by MS, it wasn't used. There were open source MVC projects but since MS only blessed ASP.NET forms

Why not custom scripts via `--scripts-version`? How do you keep things up-to-date like create-react-app does?

Facebook are where my cuckoo "friends" hangout and post political and religious views. My observation is the more personal problems you have and the stronger your views, the more likely you will post on Facebook to get attention.

If I'm understanding correctly, seems like this is back to the old days when routes mapped directly to pages. From experience with ASP, it is not a good thing. You need to separate the routing from the presentation ala MVC. I can see t

In day-to-day work, I still choose VS code over Sublime. The plugins are actively maintained and simply better. Go, eslint, tslint plugins specifically. Most of the files I edit are less than a few hundreds line of code and that's a go

Worked for two Fortune 500 real estate financial services companies. The pay was excellent. If I had family to support, I would not have left. The money was too good. The work was unfulfilling; brown-nosing, meetings, horrendous code base.

The old way, it gets downloaded, then run `sudo dpkg -i FILE.deb`. With the new PPA, just run `sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade`. Maybe I just like the terminal but upgrading VS.code is simpler than installing other unix utils.

Way back when I used to do .NET, alt.NET was also an umbrella for alternative frameworks like Castle, data mappers, etc. It would be great to see a resurgence of non-MS frameworks. Don't get me wrong the MS prescribed frameworks are gr

For a minute there I thought something happened in the world that I was not made aware of. I didn't see Hacker News change their bar so it was just an unexplained github style change.

When something is too good to be true it probably is not. Even if it was written in assembly these are dubious results. The graph alone tells me the quality of the claims.

Same with our team. Linux, for the most part, is a much better development experience. The only con is our front-end guy can't use Photoshop. I don't even miss iterm2 anymore. i3 tiling WM is iterm2 for the whole desktop on steroi

Hard to beat Ubuntu LTS. It has plenty of documentation and community support, has mostly up-to-date drivers and runs VirtualBox. LTS offers stability over several years. I use Xubuntu variant with i3. Moreover, I prefer to develop on the s

Semver has bitten us several times with node packages. All most of us care about is whether a release is backwards compatible with the package we developed against. There should be one rule: if it's the same major version it is compati

Is anybody using this new .NET stuff on Linux for production daemons? My experience in using Mono/XSP for backend services wasn't joyful. Willing to try .NET Core (?) on small projects if it is approaching JVM stability.
