The big auth companies have been really good at creating those "Don't roll your own auth EVER!!!" articles. You're not alone. I take it a step further and don't deal with passwords. I use login through email, in whi

This is why I read HN comments. Some hidden gem always surfaces. Never seen this mentioned on any CLI awesome lists.

That's one of the reasons I prefer Jellyfin over other media servers. The Web UI works fine on a plain browser. No need for a proprietary client.

Tauri and similar are only as good as the webviews on the system. My trials with webview based alternatives showed they use slightly less ram as electron at startup, but later use more memory and perform worse in FPS. (Linux) Not really see

How is no plugins different than private browsing, assuming you don't allow plugins in private browsing. Is private browsing too strict?

Was put off by the pricing page, which used to be no nonsense. It now looks like a cryptic AWS/Azure calculator. Might be time to switch to DO.

'===' and '==' in JavaScript code were too similar. Maybe that's been addressed by different glyphs in other fonts, but that was enough to say no.

The missing piece. WASM, specificially WASM run time environments, have the potential to replace containers in the future. If you can target WASM with Go, Rust, Python, C, C++ ... then you don't need containers at all. BTW, the two WAS

Great answers in this thread. I opt for distrobox [1] over toolbox. https://github.com/89luca89/distrobox

If you're using VS Code and only need to test REST APIs, then try "Rest Client" extension by Huachao Mao. It does everything I used Postman for, using a text file. A quality of life changer.

Don't use Windows filesystem not even Docker for Desktop from within WSL2 instance. Install Docker within WSL2 instance itself (like regular linux). WSL1 supposedly gives better performance when accessing Windows file system. I remove

The best ones are usually the Windows themes like [Chicago 95]( https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95 ). Users show off on reddit.com/r/unixporn.

For someone writing node apps, Go is a better fit. Go is much simpler than Typescript and almost performs as well as Rust. The reality is most Rust apps written by average Rust programmers do not noticeably outperform Go apps. Getting Rust

I don't think it's needed. The new front-end build tools optimize for production use and have a great developer experience. Use Next.js or any of the many toolkits out there. There will be a lot more support for them too. I use Go

Why wasn't ProseMirror a fit for Obsidian? Seems like that would be better for structured documents.

I switched to dasel a while back. Not as powerful, but I tend to use node when I want to do anything complicated with JSON querying. I spend too much time rereading the jq manual to do anything non-trivial. https://github.com

Older versions of npm (6 and below?) had many issues. Recent versions are more predictable. npm is fine. yarn 1 has always been a solid choice. There's nothing wrong with webpack except its lengthy build times. It's not a knock on
