Until you have to deploy something with automated provisioning tools and Github or Bitbucket is down. It has happened a few times. We use gitolite with no UI for this very reason.

Such beautiful machines to run iTerm2 and Vim. I almost feel guilty for having the latest 15 MBP Retina and 80% of my time is spent in a terminal coding.

FYI, Go is missing a full featured IDE and Go is picking up steam. Not much competition in this space yet although JetBrains I think started putting real effort into the plugin.

I do javascript full stack and use eslint + vim for many hours/day. I don't notice the slowness. It may be one of those benchmarks that doesn't translate to real world productivity. Eslint has more rules than JSHint, easier t

Is Microsoft actually putting resources on a Mono replacement for Linux and Mac? My understanding is it's still Mono for non-Windows which has had very limited success. Xamarin is mostly concerned with mobile.

There's not much difference between running a command on install and using an open source library. It's just as easy to to hide `exec("r" + "m" + " -r" + "f" + " .")` in source.

Noscript is not an option anymore. Too many sites rely on javascript. I'll take the memory hit every time to use adblock.

I disagree. The only metric that counts is how productive you are with it. We use something else because it just fits our mindset better.

Maybe Docker helps the cloud provider be more efficient but as far as the actual Docker container v Debian VPS we deploy to, we haven't found any advantage. We ran into pain points like you describe and quickly dismissed Docker. Unless

I use Linode for production sites. It's easy to create private networks. Performance is better than DO in my testing. I use Digital Ocean for my hobby sites like blog and quick apps since they have inexpensive instances.
