I really like the evolution of JS over the past two decades. I strongly believe the evolution of JS revolutionized the web in a positive way and significantly boosted innovation by lowering the costs for application development. For example

I like this. Any advice other than "putting in effort for more than 2 seconds" has a lot of hidden assumptions about the context and organization around your code. Some days I only do a commit once at the end of the day as a backu

I hate the thought behind this. Often I don't maximize to see more content, but to hide everything else. Why does Safari decide for me that the window can't be any wider? That doesn't make any sense at all.

Window management in macOS is from the stone ages. Maximizing has unpredictable behavior. Windows sometime fill the screen, sometimes not. Window snapping is absent. It works so frictionless in both Windows and Gnome: just drag the window t

True. But have you tried the latest Ubuntu for example? Everything works out of the box on my HP EliteBook. Touchpad works great as well. I didn't need to configure anything. Time hasn't stood still. Both Windows and Linux have im

Regarding messaging, contrary to popular belief WhatsApp is great for privacy as well. It is now end-to-end encrypted since it recently adopted the Signal protocol [1]. It's cross-platform and more widely used on a global scale. [1] h

This is an extreme overstatement. I have used Ubuntu LTS server editions for years without issues. It's widely without much issues. Sure, things could be better, but "completely unsuitable" is laughable. You're free to p

Fair enough, but what I meant to say is that in practice Git is always used in combination with a centralized service such as GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket. There is no cryptographic consensus, that is true, but the model still works exceptio

Money is just accounting. Making sure balances are in sync on sender and receiver's end. People don't have problems sending money from A to B. I fail to see the application here. I don't think money is going through a transfo

Still the Git concept works using a different trust model (i.e. repository maintainer).

I understand what you are saying, but you cannot say they provide trust advantages as a factual claim. The trust model is _different_, not better. There's value in centralized trust as well.

Blockchain is a decentralized database. I think very little use cases actually require decentralization. Also, decentralization is not better per se than centralization or the other way around. It's different. Imo there are very little

I actually enjoy the typing in Python. The only problem is lack of support from third-party libraries. I find myself fighting the typing errors so often by adding: # type: ignore. Especially pandas gives so many errors. Type hints are inclu

I haven't read the article due to the paywall, but was it actually risky? Apple had already proven they could make high-performant chips ever since the A4 in the iPhone 4. It was a long effort, sure, but given the tight integration bet

It is not like the stock market. Shares are a share of a company, that (hopefully) produces something of actual value. You can calculate earning per share. Companies pay dividend. It means you actually own something. What does it mean to ow

Digital gold is about how far as it gets. I can understand that. But I don't see Matt Damon hyping up gold during the Super Bowl. The price is not based on the assumption that it is digital gold.
