I don’t think this sort of regulation would happen unless they meet the criteria for a monopoly and I’m not a lawyer but I don’t think Amazon meets these criteria. It has competitors in every market it is currently in. Walmart, Target, and

Honestly though why tf did these companies never try lowering spend incrementally to see if it made a difference? Is this why engineers are so valued because we understand the simple concept of AB testing?

My team has to support both windows and Linux builds of our product. WSL1 was a godsend for this - I no longer had to ssh into a VM and could build both the Linux and windows versions from the same source, which was amazing. I hit one issue

This is a commonly held misconception. Concurrency actually implies that computations can be reordered without changing the final outcome, and does not imply parallel execution. This is related to parallelism in that concurrent computations

I actually don’t really trust business hours on google anymore, I have to go to the restaurant directly or just call since I’ve been burned so many times looking forward to dumplings/teriyaki/pizza and then having the restaurant b

I’m thinking this is related to the machine-learning coprocessor. They likely expose this to developers through their ML API and don’t want to have to support this for external customers if it changes. Still this is a great find!

It honestly has a negative connotation for me since it’s been so overused to almost be meaningless. It either means they have no business model or their business model is surveillance for profit. Big red flag.

Can anyone explain what the hashes and malware signatures are? I’ve always been interested in security but never had the time to actually go in depth in that area.

The posts about censorship on hn continue to baffle me. Any large media provider (YouTube, Netflix) is already censoring literally everything you see on their sites. There is simply too much content on their sites, that being truly unbi

I was confused why it’s hard to get a license for windows 10 on ARM. Doesn't Windows 10 already support ARM?

Correct, I was working in exchange where all of the teams and orgs working on that worked out of a single large repo and never touched other products.

New orgs are forming at big companies all the time. In my time at Microsoft, I’ve seen the tooling go from horrible monorepos with perforce to really nice git repos in azure devops. I also don’t think “failing” is the right term for these m

I actually started using edge at work (I work at ms) and I don’t find bing to be too bad, most searches I go to google for I don’t find a good answer there either. Given they are sometimes very obscure c++ questions. For everyday use though

So the Edge TPU has been out for a while now, can anyone point out a large enterprise customer that is using this for real for something new that we couldn’t do before? Or is the “edge” just made up by salespeople. Like there needs to be su

I feel that the article doesn’t go into specifics of how consensus is incentivized. It provides examples which sounded great but not how the system actually works. In short I was a little disappointed.

I honestly don’t think Apple should be investigated for antitrust and I don’t think they can be considered a monopoly. There are plenty of choices in the gaming space, and there are a lot of android competitors to the App Store. I really do
