I can tell you right now I have seen 3-4 principal “architects” who don’t know how to write simple tests and all of them were external hires. I absolutely respect any company that requires experienced hires to at a minimum understand how a

This right is here is someone on HN being the paragon of objectivity. How about taking the opposing argument in good faith? He didn’t even say anything about racism in the article and just gave evidence. The second someone mentions racism o

I tend to think the only sane path is a type error and anything else is arbitrary. It isn’t that hard to have converters which make sense in a standard library. isNone, isNil ..

After reading about stable coins they seem completely idiotic. I get the idea that pegging it to the dollar via arbitrage is great and all, but arbitrage only seems to work (like in ETFs for instance) when the underlying assets have value a

It can end with whatever criteria you want. I think clearly a viral video with this behavior fits the definition of something that should be taken down. It’s a guy deliberately crashing a plane for views. It’s the same thing as not publishi

I don’t know about you, but I imagine someone who after googling a couple questions about my field and holding up the results as fact would be pretty annoying to someone like me who has spent 6+ years studying said field. New ideas are grea

Not sure when you worked there, but I’ve seen that you have to enter a number that’s displayed on the device logging in, and the authenticator app shows the location of the device attempting to login as well.

Prices are a function of number of market participants and information of each participant. If insider trading is legal, fewer people will participate in the market because they will lose out due to information asymmetry and this will lea

I get anxious as well, not to the degree you do but I often need to take the rest of the day off after 1-2 interviews and have to prep the morning to help calm myself down. I usually run in the morning and eat a banana an hour before. The w

For me it just wasn’t as bad as I thought. I do miss hanging out with my coworkers but now if we’re local we just hang out. Being able to commute from bed is just so much nicer. And also being able to take guilt free ad hoc breaks during th

Yeah following this to its logical conclusion actually results in a pretty depressing outlook. I used to feel this way when I first graduated college, now I’ve learned that there can definitely be meaning in our experience. Also scientists

The key is to have dummy trucks with no money driving staggered schedules. That will keep them occupied. Real talk though those audio recordings of the police commenting that “that’s all they got” has no place in this country.

I highly recommend reading the book “Sapiens” by Harari. The premise is that society is essentially collective psychosis. To me it’s on upper management to plan accordingly. If we are able ship products in the time allotted, the number of h
