How many chips are used for this demo? Do they have dram? I remember the earlier versions did not have dram. Are they also used for training or just inference?

tbh anyone can build fast hw for a single model, I’d audit their plan for a SW stack before joining. That said their arch is pretty unique so if they’re able to get these speeds it is pretty compelling

MS does not install multiple browsers.. the issue in that trial was special API access and blocking out competitors. There are plenty of competing message apps in the app store

I don’t think it matters if he understands, imo if this is actually true (which we will never know) that’s definitely messed up. Most 13 year olds know that this is wrong.

The more Elon just blatantly lies the more I feel like he’s a grifter. I used to have a ton of respect for him after Lee grew Tesla and SpaceX. I still kind of do but since the Twitter acquisition I’m finding myself asking what is this guy’

Looks like Satya will have all of the leverage after this. He kind of always did though, but the board has almost entirely been replaced. I don’t see any point to the non profit umbrella now.

Honestly microsoft needs to figure out how to copy copyable text in all of their apps. For some reason I always end up with the least intuitive paste when copying text from teams/one note/office but this article does at least help

The writing in that book was atrocious, I’d much rather read I, Robot for an all around better and thought provoking experience.

Wow, that looks so much thinner than I imagined. The progression from ten years ago to today is amazing. It’s thinner than my monitor!

Characterizing that as terrifying is a bit hyperbolic. It looks like Europe in the present day. If cars were moving slower it would be much easier to be a pedestrian safely

What are you even talking about, of course it can. If humanoid robots become a viable means of production, a lot of human labor could be replaced. You continue to use the current economic system to allocate.

Corps didn’t delve into that nuance with the switch to open office so I wouldn’t pretend that this is some data driven decision.

Tbh the browser and search wars feel over and we should figure out how we want to handle the future with legislation. I don’t think more choice screens are a good solution (re the cookies choice screen is really annoying). I also don’t have

This stems from modern companies’ obsession with measurable impact. If it can’t be measured it might as well not exist. Unfortunately UX has to become very very bad before the effect is measurable (losing users) and by then it is much too

Because there are still a bunch of conspiracy theorists who think the virus and vaccine were made to line the pockets of “secret trillionaires”. I thought this crap would finally go away as the virus subsided but looks like it’s here to sta

An idiotic policy is an idiotic policy. If I can deliver work from anywhere why tf does it matter where I am. I love how when it comes to “intangibles” like “collaboration” in person execs are geniuses but when it comes to “intangibles” lik

Comments like this irk me, obviously if the US has a choice here, allow Pakistan to remain non-aligned but democratic or closely aligned and non-democratic, one of these choices is better for advancing US interests. The cable itself barely

I mean, isn’t spawning 1000 threads at least linear time? You could get it to log maybe but I’m not sure that code does that automatically.

Software, there are 100s of ai hardware startups. It’s easier relatively to build a domain specific chip, but building a compiler stack that integrates with a major framework and gets good perf from your chip is incredibly difficult. Gettin

Yeah for inference this is true, there could be a viable subset of models. You’re not going to build a viable business on inference though. It’s super cheap already and plenty of hardware can do it ootb with an existing framework as you’re

This 95% of models are statically computable thing really shows how much he is trivializing this problem. I’d be interested to see his SW stack compile MaskRCNN. His ISA is massively under-defined and people will not change their model co

It isn’t that there are suboptimal patterns, it’s just the more expressive your language can be at runtime, the less you can reason about statically. An example is data-dependent control flow. If you can’t reason about what branch your code

Something that’s lost in these arguments a lot is that you can often get large models to cough up an exact sample from their training set. It’s fair to say that a human cannot do that to the degree a model can.

Police should be okay being watched. They should be held to a higher standard than citizens, because they have the legal authority to use force lawfully.

Yeah I mean we also have more crime too, so I feel like we’d need to normalize this somehow with like incarcerated/crime rate or something. Given I think nonviolent offenses should be less severely punished than they are today.
