Did you ever play a Sonic game? Miles "Tails" Prower's name is a play on Miles Per Hour. Even a lot of native English speakers in mile-using countries miss it. I try to take a Today's Lucky 10,000 approach to these situa

The people of Ukraine will without question suffer more from Putin's war than the Russian people will from sanctions. What's the alternative without risking an escalation to nuclear war? Cutting off the wealth and resources that f

This is true of every aspect of game development DirectX implements an API for, but it's still popular. I don't know enough to know why, but there's probably a good reason for that.

Games already use virtual file systems for storing assets to reduce load times. Otherwise they have to load a bunch of tiny files with filesystem and OS overhead for each. I'm sure some would appreciate not having to invent their own.

Fresh meat is just a term for someone new. This reminds me of when I used the word "zealot" on a forum back in the same era and someone was adamant that it came from Starcraft and wondered why I was making a Starcraft reference

A common one is noticing that targeting works so well they see ads for things they've talked about and assume their phone is listening in on them. Though I wouldn't say they're okay with it.

We don't import that much from Russia. It's little enough that finding other sources shouldn't take long. Oil and gas are highly fungible.

No manufacturer will actually guarantee their weather sealing. It surprised me when I went and researched it. YouTuber James Popsys[0] takes his cameras out in the cold and wet all the time, so whatever he uses is probably a good starting p

I think it's hard to divine trends from such small numbers. 14 Tsars, 45 presidents. It's not even enough to determine if the odds of one outcome or the other is better than a coin toss. This is before getting into confounding var

That's one approach. Another is to pay attention to what they're saying and try a different approach to persuasion. It turns out it's not actually that hard to convince a lot of them if you just treat them like human beings.

There's probably actual research on this, but I can't come up with the right search terms. It could be one of those situations where it's impossible to say for sure. You can't exactly design an experiment around it: the

Bandcamp is almost as old as Web 2.0. That's why people are so confused about this. Why does a profitable 15-year-old company need to sell? They didn't say in the post, so all we can do is be frustrated.
