This is one of the most important moments in all of art history. Millions of people just got unconditional access to the state-of-the-art in AI text-to-image for absolutely free less the cost of hardware. I have an Nvidia GPU myself and am

Yeah, this entire article read like a giant example of the logical fallacy of personal incredulity. None of the author's claims are actually backed up in any meaningful way.

This article is overly dismissive, to say the least. To say the most, it's overconfident, riddled with unsupported logical premises which are never backed by any concrete evidence, and a word salad. However, in the interest of not bein

While I agree with your sentiment, I don't see why this couldn't be accomplished with just standard cryptographic hashing verification based off of, say, a scan of the artist's iris salted with a timestamp that is then encode

I'd agree with you, but I have yet to come across a salient, non-circular definition of "meaning" in this context that makes it somehow unobtainable by robots. What is the meaning you speak of? This isn't meant to come

As an artist (music, film, 3D modeling/rendering, creative writing, portraiture) and an AI engineer, I'll admit I have a lot of uncertainty about the future of art. Some days I'm very scared, other days I figure I'll jus

I'm guessing it's a combination of genuine goodwill (Dreamworks has a history of open-sourcing stuff) and wanting to be able to hire people who already have experience with their renderer instead of having to train every new hire.

I disagree. Dreamworks doesn't make their money because of their rendering engine, they make it because of their movies. The engine is a necessary and integral tool for making those movies, but the engine alone is not the beating heart

I disagree -- a large part of the lookdev process at animation studios involves single artists working on single workstations with single GPUs while they work on their part of the pipeline. I'd wager that Dreamworks almost certainly do
