Hi @schmichael ;) Rust would've prevented one. The rest Rust wouldn't have prevented since as you already noticed, it was in the boundary layer and semantics of a C API. It would've only been as safe as the Rust wrapper. One

For any startup that actually reaches a sizable liquidity event of any form, it's very common. As background: I cofounded a startup that made a lot of people millionaires. QSBS really helped a lot of people. Yeah, if you're going

Sorry to be a broken record but I have no “proposal” whatsoever. It’s more of an information sharing and seeking discussion. I don’t know what I want yet except that I think we can do better. The end result could be that it’s all a terrible

I believe it could. A shell could reduce capability by default for all executed shell scripts (file or inline on the prompt) and require opt in to not do this. Something akin to a umask of sorts. It’d break exceedingly few real scripts. (Ha

These benchmarks are all flawed. You can't measure input latency properly without a camera (or pixel access to the screen but then have to be careful it's not impacting your benchmark). The latency benchmark is just testing VT IO

We do a full redraw but do damage tracking ("dirty tracking" for us) on the cell state so we only rebuild the GPU state that changed. The CPU time to rebuild a frame is way more expensive than the mostly non-existent GPU time to r

We rely on the OS to tell us when we're obscured, and macOS will only tell us if the window is fully obscured (1 pixel showing is not obscured).

In some cases yes. In this case, in my opinion it can be strictly wrong. The GPU requirements of a terminal are _minuscule_ even under heavy load. We're not building AAA games here, we're building a thing that draws a text grid. T
