Yeah, I think there's a tremendous amount of use cases for Materialize for companies that already have data store infra and want real time analytics or such use cases. However, I also think differential dataflow solves a big problem fo

I think the killer app for differential dataflow would be an easy to set up realtime database like Firebase, but with much richer real-time queries and materialized views. Materialize (built on differential dataflow) is cool but doesn'

Are there really that many local newspapers using SPAs though? I feel like advertisers delivering boatloads of JS with their ads sometimes gets conflated in this discussion. Another point, it's true Reddit doesn't need a SPA. Howe

Some people don't seem to understand what the whole JS SPA thing is about, and it's quite strange to me. It's not popular because it's a fad, it's not about replacing good old static websites with fancy over-enginee

As someone who runs facebook ads for ecomm, repeated targeting are a core part of making facebook ads profitable. You'll almost never make money by running a simple, one-step ad with a link to your website. What we do is to target a gr

Okay, why is there this attitude about dynamic typing vs. static typing that we can't have debates about it? As if it's an inherently subjective debate, not worth discussing? How is it ludicrous to say that for big programs, rules

Sure, but having used static vs. dynamic languages extensively on gnarly problems, it’s pretty clear what they’re saying. There comes a point where dynamic languages can be quite hard to debug compared to language with well deigned types, e

CoffeeScript code bases are the scariest code bases on the planet, the nightmares. To me CoffeeScript inherited all the inconsistencies of JavaScript, then made the syntax inconsistent as well. It least it had optional chaining.

If the flaw is in open source software, it would be the responsibility of the commercial company that shipped the open source software, for not auditing the code they shipped. You can always disclaim your code if you want to take no respons

It's fairly obvious that for the any public facing API, type signatures are going to be a net positive, because you have to write input validation for your API anyway to have any hope of it being secure. You can either write as a serie

Of coarse the company is not going to pay more then the market-rate for gig workers. It's actually impossible for them, and will be even more impossible once DoorDash goes public, they'll be legally obligated by their shareholders

I want Notion + Custom JS components, written inline. You could build a database with a Notion table, write some code that edits it in a little inline code snippet, similar to Observable.io, then publish it on the web as an instant low-code
