“Just” to program stuff for the web? Web development is a complicated and amazing feat of engineering! The fact that you can write some code on your machine to make any pretty graphic and maze of pages you want and it will run in this thing

Reading this thread was extremely frustrating for me as I have this idea in my head that everyone on HN is a seasoned software engineer. But obviously that’s not true, which is a good thing! And I certainly shouldn’t be frustrated at other

But in the long run knowing all that makes it easier. We could have some GUI for doing all those things but it would end up being a massive mess of buttons EVERYWHERE and endless menus. And maybe a nice wizard could be designed for the giv

Thank you for this example. I’ll be using it. I’ve been struggling to articulate that just because technically someone is free to do something doesn’t mean they aren’t being meaningfully hindered from doing it.

I think the comment you are replying to is saying that the area the cops let those people into was either already over run and they were moving to a different place to keep people out. Or that it was area the people were allowed to be in,

Hear me out on this because the first sentence sounds crazy but I’m not condoning what these people did. What came to mind when I read this news about Capitol Hill was the famous MLK quote “A riot is the language of the unheard.” Along with
