And that design (the Amazon one) will be unusably slow for any actual uncached access! WordPress on EFS (and they explicitly mention PHP files on their EFS description) is unbearably slow!

Honestly at a team level - code reviews. At least one other developer reviewing every line of code that is written is transformative in the quality of code that is produced. A lot fewer problems, a lot more maintainable.

It’s been an option since basically forever (I think you could use HFS+ case sensitive on Tiger, even). But it breaks a large number of apps, so do it with caution.

Except Apple have a lovely ‘Skip’ button at every step of the process. If you don’t want to use iCloud you’re not forced to by virtue of being internet connected, and there’s a clear option to not allow your iCloud account to be involved in

CircleCI has been very frustrating for us recently. We have a lot of problems with waiting for builds to start - it seems CircleCI don’t have even remotely enough capacity at peak times. We regularly get 10min plus delays to builds starting

Then I shall live in hope that it will be fixed :) And I didn't even have a JetBrains product in the loop, it was a mix of virtualbox and VS code, along with browser, mail client, etc.

Yeah, this is exactly my experience too. I try to move over every six months to a year or so, and it's the same gripes every time at this point. Driver support's reasonable now, and the desktop environments are generally solid eno

No, you paid for a TV with an App Store, where there were apps (pretty much all provided by third parties). It’s not Samsung’s fault if a third party pulls their app.

At this point, I’m convinced google are actively harmful to the internet. Trying to centralise as much of the internet and how people interact with it under their control is dangerous and open to widespread abuse - and this is already happe

I agree - lots of game soundtracks are superb coding music for me. I tend to find if the music has vocals that I understand (eg in English) then I listen too hard and get distracted. My favourites st the moment for coding to are the Sonic A

One of the ways Chrome gained marketshare was bundling with heavily used apps. Install Acrobat Reader? If you didn’t notice the checkbox, Chrome’s now your default browser.

The argument for this I come up with is rather that they want to maintain the security of their platform - protecting things like their App Store DRM as much as possible. By disallowing downgrades you can't get back to a version with o

This isn't as bad as it sounds - it only works if the attacker has access to the management interface. If you're exposing that unfettered to the web at large, imo you deserve what you get.

Google push Chrome crazy hard whenever you touch a Google service, and they have a crazy bundling game in play - they bundle with flash, acrobat reader, some free A/V products - wherever they can get marketshare. Plus some pre-built PC
