I'm referring to the second point about memory that OP made. You know, having to allocate 700MB of memory in order to run an electron chat application.

A note for anyone who is thinking of switching from ranger, to customize key bindings you need to recompile the application [0]. The developer is not interested in maintaining custom keybinding support. For more insight into the reasoning b

Perhaps this will encourage programmers to write true native applications again instead of wrapping web scripting languages in a browser and calling it a day.

Please do not support Onyx or buy any Boox tablets! I'm reproducing an earlier comment[0] below: They're a lousy company that does not respect the GPL and ships intentionally insecure software (ancient linux kernel with SELinux di

Try it out, I don't think there's any way now. And it's really easy to get completely locked out of your account if you connect from a low-reputation/datacenter IP, like through VPNs or Tor.

One thing I don't see mentioned is marketing. All of that investment allowed discord to purchase an obscene amount of advertisement. Heavy advertisement of a 'free' product targeted toward children seems like a prerequisite f

That makes sense. I forgot about the SoftBank investment. Still, looking at the thread, I wish people would be less sarcastic and vitriolic when pushing for the spirit of open software to be upheld. Ideally, it should be presented as a win-

Re-linked for those who disable JS: https://nitter.net/richardf/status/1314481244344852480?s=20 Not that I agree with the changes, but what would be a nuanced reasoning for Mapbox closing their SDK and Mapbox GL J

I've always thought the F in FOSS was for "Free as in Freedom" not "Free as in Gratis" but yes, FLOSS was the intention here, thank you for the reminder.

This is good! Hopefully Purism can build on their recognition to funnel resources toward FOSS-mobile applications because this will help us all. This reminds me of something else. What would be the best model for a FOSS "app store"

I have a Boox Note and its has tragically lousy software. Its stuck on Android Lollipop with an ancient, vulnerable kernel, SELinux disabled by the manufacturer and the device phones home to Chinese servers for just about everything. Handwr

FWIW, I have been doing all of my non-multimedia browsing over Tor for about a decade now. It provides cover traffic for people who actually need the anonymity and I feel like it is a step in the right direction to frustrate state and corpo

Honest question: Why is a web-based front end preferable for a desktop application? Thinking about it, the only advantage would be if one anticipates a multi-head scenario—like drawing to a common canvas from a mobile OS and a desktop OS. W

The three most impressive things that I've seen on pmOS in the past year: 1. It's amazing the sheer number of devices to which pmOS is now bootable[0]. Also previously supported devices keep getting better. For example, g--gle-gla

I see. That's interesting, you may want to send those comments to your regional forecast office. They have several citizen-science programs like SKYWARN and their ham radio observers, that help them improve their regional forecasts.

I used to think the same thing, but what about the situations where people don't sell out and just see their features copied by the corporate behemoth, wholesale? That scenario seems to play out often as well (g---le+ and diaspora alwa
