You have to remember, it's a big deal for the leader of a Superpower. In a vacuum, these things don't sound so great. In today's world, they actually are. Obviously there's something wrong with that, but that's just the way it is.

It does seem awfully fast, but for what it's worth: 1) He banned torture (waterboarding) 2) He wants to close Guantanamo. I know he hasn't done it yet, but it can't be easy. 3) He's willing to negotiate with Iran without pre-conditions 4) H

Is that possible? How could they be the only ones affected then?

Could you counteract this by taking a photograph from behind a one way mirror? You could still get photos, but the raft's light would be reflected back. Or so I presume... EDIT: Two way mirror is the technically correct term.

Talk about not giving up- the Buxfer guy just keeps going. Anybody know how Buxfer is doing?

Wow. Never thought of it like that before... My biggest gripe with factory farming is the suffering. Animals are cramped together, pumped up with hormones, treated callously, and dragged kicking and screaming to their deaths. And some video

I was under the impression that he would have to pay in 90 days. Otherwise, it's one hell of a deal.

This guy has a huge ego (check out his blog). But taking a 30K risk when you're 16 is pretty impressive, especially considering how poor his family was. EDIT: Not his blog, his site.

I was wondering this too. On the one hand, it's for charity. On the other hand, it's a well known fact that Microsoft is losing browser market share, and that their browsers often lack the features of their competitors. I might be wrong, bu

Nothing is wrong with PDF. This would provide some pretty useful options, though.

You just brought up a great idea. Google can do it, but on a limited basis. A startup that could convert pdfs, word documents, and latex files directly to HTML+CSS, with negligible loss of quality, would be MASSIVE. Of course, this requires

Interesting. He seems to make most of his money from TV deals. His massive restaurant empire took in 35 million pounds pre-recession, but profits were only about 1.5 million pounds. On a totally different note, I'm disappointed that Gordon

This is actually pretty sweet. I wonder if they could have used some kind of web chat like campfire, or if the Iranian authorities had banned every explicit communication channel.

Star Trek. Nothing beats TNG, not with the cast they had. DS9 and Voyager were also good. Haven't seen the original series though. Patrick Stewart might just be my favorite actor. Even with no props or a set, the man could still deliver a r

The first thing I thought when I saw this was: "Oh shit- now nothing is private." Don't get me wrong- it's amazing stuff, and I'm all for the advancements it can bring. But the mind really is the last bastion of privacy in our increasingly

It's worth checking out his full twitter page, https://twitter.com/donttrythis In addition to being pissed at AT&T, this is what he says about the RIAA/MPAA: "I believe the RIAA to be a bunch of venal idiots. I don't think much of the

I actually thought the title is justified in this case. I'd love to see the 8 meals that could be bought for $1.15.

If they could put it on the internet while they're airing it on TV that would certainly be the best. Still, I give them great credit.

In my experience it takes a day. I don't think torrents could top that, even if they tried. I really think South Park gets it. 24 hours after a new episode airs, they put it online. That's pretty damn reasonable.

Seriously. The South Park guys caught on, and with every single episode available on their site, why would you even bother to pirate the episodes? Side note: Even when people were pirating their stuff, they were just happy that people liked

The monetization need not be direct (i.e. charging people to use the site). It could be better ad placement, a search engine that knows more about you than google does, monetary transactions (auctions, payments), as well as other stuff... L

Central park isn't a business. If it were a for-profit venture, it would be fairly easy to monetize, purely because it's so popular.

I would strongly disagree with this. I used to feel this way about Mark Zuckerberg, but not anymore. Just consider these observations about facebook: 1) When it started, there were already many social networks 2) Because it positioned itsel
