TL;DR: Lots of math is used to show that a novel mechanical card shuffler using psuedorandom numbers needs to be run twice in a row to be effective at preventing players from guessing the resulting cards.

As a small business who had to settle a trademark issue with a large international computer company, I found this interesting. TL;DR: The country band is suing just to show they own the trademark, not to stop the blues singer or extract mon

There's no shortage of high quality baked goods available in the States, I assure you! :-) Tate's is a good brand that you can buy in stores w/ no weird ingredients. The Famous Amos retail stores that used to be here also had

I saw the founder on Shark Tank a few years; his story is an interesting and sad one about inventing something great then taking on so much money that other people owned the entire company. BTW, someone needs to have a conversation with the

I'm in exactly the same boat. I finally switched from HBO on Amazon Prime on the day South Park left Hulu and HBO Max became a Hulu channel that you can't watch with the Hulu app. (If that isn't confusing enough by itself.) T

This article is good reminder that "no code" doesn't mean "no programming." If a person can figure out the logic to wire something like this together, they are programming. The tough part about coding isn't s

IMHO, not worth it. Too big of an attack surface and you spend all your time on security. That's probably why Outlook de-listed you, too.

I didn't read that types were causing problems. My understanding was TS, itself, was causing problems. Specifically waiting around for it to compile. Strong typing is from OOPS, itself an optional programming methodology. There are m

I've been programming for 40 years and I agree. Strong typing has a religious quality. You have to believe that most errors are caused by type mismatch, and I simply don't believe that. Most errors, in my experience, are caused by

Lisp is large, important, and also not statically typed. It's worked out ok for Lisp programmers. JS itself isn't strongly typed and is the most successful and important language in the world (probably in the history of programmin

I don't think so, since TS by definition compiles to JS. Too many embedded systems rely on JS. And many programmers, like me, prefer non-strongly-typed systems and/or runtime typing rather than compile-time.

How did JS not make it? It's the most ubiquitous programming language on earth and runs on more devices and environments than any other. JS will always be here.

I had a couple big companies take a chance on me when I didn't know much and it worked out for them. Think of it as their investment in you which you repay with your enthusiasm and terrific contributions.

When I started my company, we used to host our own stuff but I found the security aspect to be a nightmare. Unless you want to be in the business of supervising a bleeding hole to the outside world (which is what a server basically is), I&#

After looking at lots of font options for our project, we chose Inter and are very happy with it. My favorite feature is infinitely-variable widths from a single font, along with a huge variety of glyphs. And it looks great, too.

I love the idea of desktop-as-a-service but all the current implementations are way to expensive. It's hard to justify paying for a machine on a per-minute basis at the kind of rates that, MS for example, is charging.

I know politics isn't the usual HN topic, but I think this goes beyond politics at this point. Until I saw this list, I had no idea how out of control this situation has gotten here. I'm saddened for my country and hope that this
