I don't think users care how software is deployed. (ie: does it live on the web or in their desktop?) But what looks dead to me is desktop-specific development. With modern UI frameworks and Electron, you can deliver an app that look

"Software product overhaul" is a terrifying term because there really is no such thing. The program you have already might be able to be modified to have a different user interface (which is what I think you might be asking for),

Two great kanban tools to try are Trello[0] and Codecks[1]. The latter is sold as a tool for game devs but there's nothing about games in it and we use it for enterprise software dev. Interestingly, kanban was invented by Toyota who us

After 30 years away from it, I can't. But others have echoed my comments. Perhaps Bitsavers has some VMS doc. One thing was clear: you could learn VMS from the manuals. That wasn't the case with any Unix manuals I've ever see

Wouldn't it be best to have your own domain and use ProtonMail to deal with the mail? That way, your address is portable and you have far more flexibility (catch all addresses, custom security, etc.) Domains are cheap.

Unix is the ultimate example of "worse is better." VMS, which is what the article is about, was definitely more elegant, easier to grok, and far better documented. So was IBM's VM which had what we now call "containers&q

Personally, I agree with the author. Since code executes linearly (in a single-threaded app), it makes sense to write it that way, too. We recently wrote a large a complex parser, interpreter, and backing database for a new text processing

"Officially safe" is a hilarious term which tries to predict the possibility of an MCA or "Maximum Credible Accident." Of course, Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima were also "officially safe" when the

While this is undoubtedly true, the 80/20 rule doesn't apply to wealth -- at least not anymore. Today, the top 1% of the world's population has more wealth than the other 99% combined.
