My name is David Bethune and I'm the founder of Mimix. My co-founder Rommel Martinez and I have spent the last year building an interpreter and hybrid database for a new text processing language called MSL. Today, we're delighted

It is truly awful on the mobile app, too. (Though the actual streaming games work pretty well). MS makes frameworks but a lot of their UI ideas are really bad: "Metro", the Office ribbon, new control panels in Windows, setup "

I wanted to use web components for our current project but, as the OP points out, there's no help for iterating through data or even binding data to a source, which is where most of the useful part of a UI comes from. We went with Angu

Microsoft has always been about making devs happy so they will sell software to users. If devs are happy with Linux, WSL will make it easier for them to sell those apps to Windows users. The community of people who develop software is sma

Right! Distribution of apps is about where the user lives, and that's Windows. Devs will be able to live in Linux and be happy and their apps will simply work in Windows and users don't care. It's win-win-win for devs, users,

This is part of their ongoing campaign to "featurize" Linux as just another part of Windows. It's not going to be extinguished. Quite the contrary; it will be easier than ever for devs to work with Liunux and FOSS and for use

I think the OP is right and few people seem to realize what MS is doing by "featurizing" Linux. If devs and enterpise want FOSS and Linux (which they do) and all the enterprise users are on Windows (which they are), it makes sense

I'd recommend doing your experiments on a virtual machine like Hyper-V so you can spin up different version and kill or revert them if you have problems. On Windows, you can run Ubuntu (WSL) like any other app.

The rebooting stuff is horrible; I completely agree. But MS has won the desktop and featurizing Linux means Linux devs will be able to write Windows apps and no one will care.

MS will entirely "featurize" Linux as just another part of Windows, and thereby finally solve the problem of Linux on the desktop.
