Thanks everyone for their reviews. Glad to hear this isn't a POS text. I'm taking this at Millersville University as a once-a-week, 3 hour evening course. I'm a Physics and CS major, and am taking it as an elective to get a M

I'm taking an Intro to Crypto course this spring. What's interesting is that it's offered through the Math department, and assumed it was a CS class. We'll be using this text: http://www.amazon.com/Introd

Perhaps it's just me, but I get real giddy when I see the formulas rendered by LaTex. Very beautiful!

I thought the same as well. An LED in series with the circuit powering the CMOS sensor is all that would be needed. No amount of reprogramming is going to bypass a physical circuit. This is disappointing, and I expect Apple will redesign th

Bingo. If I'm in front of a computer, Mathematica. If not near one, then Wolfram|Alpha app/PCalc Lite on my iPad, else TI-83. But I've had my eyes on the HP Prime for a while. That'd be a huge jump from the 83!

Thanks for sharing. Having gone back to student life, but with prior experience working for larger companies, I guess you can't really worry about C-level stuff because it's out of your control. Good advice on staying focused on w

Also, I'm curious what it's like to be a Microsoft insider. Is there a perpetual whisper along the lines of "Why can Apple execute, but we can't?". I'm not denigrating Microsoft and it's employees. But I&#

Still rooting for Forstall. The ultimate revenge, and the once in a lifetime opportunity for Microsoft to change its ways, cut waste, bureaucracy, and ship new product on a regular basis. If Microsoft wants to operate like Apple does, there

I signed up to reddit a few months ago and found it great for local events and meetups, with little interest and time for memes or browsing the main page. I could see it as a competitor to Craigslist, meetup.com, and others. Very versatile

Know it's too early, but can anyone comment on Screen Sharing improvements in Mavericks? I regularly access a headless mini and have had to occasionally kill screensharingd for hanging sessions, and/or lose connectivity on occasio

This is good news and because I don't make calls frequently, I'm selling the iPhone and iPad for the next Verizon iPad mini with month-to-month data. Just tired of paying $90/mo for voice minutes that are mostly forfeited any

I wonder if this deal was staged from the beginning. Stephen Elop leaves Microsoft to become CEO of Nokia. He can't turn things around there (and/or may not have had any intention to do so), does his due diligence and shops the co

I'll throw in a wildcard and say Scott Forstall as the next CEO so he can get his revenge!

I'm in the Apple camp, but I think the crazy rumor that Surface was going to go on sale for $199 disappointed a lot of people. Definitely would've bought one at that price. Heck, I would've stood in line at a Microsoft store

That's great. In his last lecture, Dr. Bose said that the average timespan of an engineer doing actual engineering was about 7 years because they get promoted and become managers. I hope to avoid this at all costs and keep practicing m
