Whether this is entirely true or not, surely the underlying message worth noting is that you can give the impression you are more successful than you are. This, of course, translates to the business/startup world where perception matters

I noticed this too. As a Londoner, I am pretty excited by this release of data, but, seriously, could they not use attributes for things like the year?!

I hadn't heard of DimDim, so I just setup a trial account hoping it would be a viable alternative to GotoMeeting. Short answer: no. Sadly, it seemed very slow and unresponsive. The extra $40/month for GotoMeeting now seems good value.

MongoDB has helped me rethink everything I thought I knew (and disliked) about DB's. Javascript. This year, the full potential (and diversity) of this language has truly revealed itself to me, especially with the maturing of frameworks like

The input string appears to be limited to 100 characters in length. Still very interesting though. I hope Google publish this as a more formal API.

Yes, but at least the ads are likely to be targeted and contextual rather than the blanket-cover approach of conventional TV ads.

I've been using a similar device for a year now - the Wattson Home Energy Meter ( http://www.diykyoto.com ). It's not as full featured as Wattvision and doesn't connect over WiFi, but the information it reveals is extremely interesting and

It's hard to find a good (reasonably priced) VPS provider in the UK. This is fantastic news. I've been considering moving from The Rackspace Cloud to Linode for a while now. Just signed up. My average ping is now 11ms!

Congratulations to them! It's exciting that they were so impressed with Wave. It's easy to overlook the potential of Wave in its current incarnation, but this, to me, suggests there is some seriously awesome stuff coming to the Wave platfor

This is probably pie in the sky thinking, but I hope this prompts Apple to launch a browser based version of iTunes, using the technology/expertise acquired from Lala.

Yes. This concept of 'leaking' the URL is becoming apparent to me. I naively assumed you could keep them semi-private (by simply not telling anyone), but this approach is doesn't appear to hold up. It's a great point about the referrer head

I guess Amazon Cloud Front is the CDN then, rather than S3 itself! :) Whilst it seems fair to assume two UUID will almost certainly not collide, the way you pose that last question sums up my query: If your users don't want other people pe

My main concerns are securing a file so only certain designated users can see it. And, yes, someone iterating through them would be bad also! Thanks for the tip about Google. It would be unacceptable for Google to index these files.

Remember that because Objective-J is a superset of Javascript you can still write native JS code in an app. This is the beauty of Cappuccino: it provides the benefits of a framework (consistency, robustness etc) with the flexibility to pr

Although, you could argue that the business use defines the technology use case which, in turn, informs the decision to use "nosql". For example, key/value DB's have enabled me to better implement features of a enterprise web app I am wor

You could argue that the actions described in the article define a good startup founder. Having a vision and single-minded focus to follow up on it, regardless of convention, is not easy. As someone mentioned, he always followed through (i.

From a technical point of view, I agree that scalability is a killer feature. But from the point of someone learning about key/value stores, taking a entirely different approach is helpful. For me, it has been invaluable to detach my though

This is an impressive proof of concept, but the single most powerful thing about key value stores / document-based DB's is their independence from SQL. Lately I have been experimenting with MongoDB and, personally, the divergence from SQL

Yes, that's true. I think, generally speaking, base64 encoded images will result in more bytes than the original. I guess it's probably around 10%-20%. I think, in the case of spriting, it would be fair to say that the overhead of loading m

This is the sort of fantastically elegant solution, to a tricky problem, that we have come to expect from 280North and Cappuccino. The killer feature here is that "you won’t have to change a single line of code". I love how seamless this is

I've always been skeptical of Retweeting. As the article mentions, it's responsible for diluting the quality of your news stream. Any value-add from the sentiment of a Retweet is offset by the sheer noise-to-signal ratio and redundancy from

Their choice to use cloud services makes perfect sense. It will enable them to create new servers on the fly, when required, as well as resizing and allocating resources as needed, keeping costs down and efficiency high. It inspires me that
