Thought experiment: Company gets served with a TCN. They task Jolene (Snr Programmer) to implement the backdoor. She does so in a way that spews information far and wide in a highly visible manner. What are the consequences for Jolene and&#

I, too, hope that the Belgian government succeeds in this. I guess my point is that it is probably cheaper at this stage for FB to put up a legal fight than to actually implement the necessary changes. I hope that gets fixed!

I suspect that it's just too difficult, possibly next-to impossible for them. Tracking is (I assume) baked into every aspect of every system they have, and carving out an exception for one small country is just... exceedingly high effo

Thank you for giving me a compelling reason to try this. I have a stash of IR LEDs lying about and I've been intending to experiment with and IR-decorated hat for a good while now, but basically been too lazy. Now I have to try it!

A software update that was scheduled for distribution (iirc) in January, so already late. As a software practitioner, this scares the living shit out of me. Already late software, now pushed for a deadline-driven release... This can't

Great news for giant IP-owning corporates with legal and compliance departments that can easily manage the process of obtaining certificates on an ongoing basis. Terrible news for the indie creator working alone, probably barely making rent

Stop reading in the dark. It's not good for your eyes. The human eye has evolved over millions of years to work optimally in an environment where it is flooded with light (leaning blue). Honestly, the mania for dark mode baffles me.

I tried, just last week, to install Gatsby, as I'm currently (and recurrently) deep in a twisty little maze of static website generators, trying to find the one that fits best with what I'm trying to do. It broke. `npm install gat

Perhaps the search trends are more an indication of how often people shoot themselves in the foot with git and have to search for a way to unshoot their feet vs. how seldom that happens with hg. Or perhaps they're reflecting GitHub&#x2

Oh, we had washing machines, despite it being the Dark Ages. Steam-powered, they were, as I recall... But: do you really want those shitty nappies in the washing machine? No! the diaper service was a godsend. (Actually a Mother-in-Law-send.

That's sort of weird. Searching DDG for "ublock origin" gives me: 1. Chrome web store 2. ublock.org 3. Microsoft store 4. Wikipedia 5. Mozilla addon, and finally 6. Gorhill's github for ublock origin. Can we finally say

Let's say I write something -- a story, perhaps. And I publish it. I own the IP, and it is my only source of income. How do you consider that the equivalent of slave ownership?
