Oh, sometimes I do recommend it very strongly . On one memorable occasion I installed Linux for a friend who couldn't afford a Windows-capable machine. Installed the browser she'd need, an email client (this was the days before

So, as a Linux user these past 20 years or more, it's not that I'm unwilling to help my Windows-using family and friends, it's that I am no longer competent to do so. The last time I tried (perhaps 8 or 10 years ago) the

In similar vein: I have come to loath the word "passion" as it relates to almost anything, but especially work. Claiming to be passionate about some aspect of life has become a red flag for me: Passion is hot-blooded and short-l

Huh? I'm on 91.0.2 and the coloured border is still there. If there's a newer version (nightly?) where it's gone, I'd have to agree that's an egregious UI FU.

I do think the flowchart needs one more diamond (if-statement): Between "Would any user benefit from this?" and "Build it" there's another state. "Would other users be harmed/disadvantaged by this?"

That's odd. I've never given Twitter a phone no. (Granted my account predates their phone no. fetish.) Still use Twitter daily without any issue. Perhaps it's because I'm still logged in and not trying to re-login?

The dividing line between "buy" and "rent" can be as clear-cut as you like, or as much a grey-zone continuum as you like as long as it is spelled out clearly up front to the buyer . The problem is not that there are gra

My brother had that (quite legitimate, really) concern. So he delayed vaccination. Now he has Covid. Doctors talking of amputating his toes because of blood clots. Death is not the worst thing to be feared in this.

There's no problem in principle to monetising RSS data by sticking ads into the stream. The real problem for Google is (I suspect) that it is a standard protocol, so enables anybody to play, and that means escape from Google's wa

Given that the case was initiated by the website owner (CBS) who claimed that the documents were in a private, password-protected directory, I'd say the falsely-accused campaigner (Mr Hutchinson) has good grounds for a civil suit again
