This is an interesting moral debate - LA Noire was both a critical and monetary success AFAIK. Was this worth it? If you produce great art, do you have to worry about the "how"?

I may be out of line, but I don't think this article has made me any smarter. Do we really need to reiterate that you need to check references and code to hire well? I'm not by any means trying to insult the writer, just the relevance of it

I'm pretty sure the grandfather meant "released" in the sense of "I want the source code released" and not in the sense of "I want a product using it released".

I've looked through a few and by the life of me I can't find one that is doing something only available with 3.0. Google changed a lot of stuff with the UI, yet non of the apps seem to utilize windowing or other new stuff. This is really ki

This keeps reminding me of that Daily WTF article where a sysadmin sends a warning about phishing spam with an example of one and gets hundreds of UN/PW pairs back... I think email should be taught is school.

16 character limit and at least some symbols... This is luxury compared to a lot of services, even online shopping or banking sites. Not salting though, should be against the law.

Or they are selling this info to a third party... I've heard of a story of a guy that used his British girlfriend's identity to sign up to one of your American internet (or cable) providers and than got a lot of spam for her, even though th

Nope. not only in Germany. Here is Israel we have more than one site that "close" for the Sabbath. It's moderately interesting to see how religion and the internet co exist.

So how many law enforcement agencies have the Python interpreter installed on their machine? Of course you can always py2exe this, write it in C/C++ (/C#). Hacking is easy, it just takes time and dedication.

It's great that you don't meet this since Python/Ruby were designed not to have the same problems C/C++ had.

The nice people on TV know even less than us. Only time will explain this. I'm sorry if you feel that sitting with popcorn and watching this mess and waiting for it to stabilize is worse than being an early adopter.

This reply makes the most sense in all of the threads here. We don't have enough info to make scientifically correct claims about Bitcoins but everyone keeps talking about it like it is figured out.

This is not an either or scenario. Both test different things and should be written. I don't want to criticize DB since god knows everyone makes stupid mistakes, but this finally convinced me that I will never pay them for their service and

It also has the Bethesda and US senate links in the end, making this look more like copy-paste of an older release. This is inconclusive though since the real LulzSec might copy paste from an older release to get all the ascii art.

Passwords seem to be hashed. I think this is to be expected since this is such a techy thing (currency?), but still nice to know. Now whether they are hashed and whether the algorithm used is safe are a different story.

Totally unrelated request - you posted your YC application a few years ago, but the link 404s. If this is intentional, you can forget it, but if not, I'd really would like to see it, Link in question is: http://files.dropbox.com/u/2/app.ht

I really love the distinction that a programmer programs, writing code and making executables, while a developer builds a product, and a software developer builds a product made out of code. Programs and products are two different thing in

I've been noticing an increase in videos taken down due to copyright complains on my playlist. The real question I have is whether this is going to be another US centric product like Hulu.
