1. Multiplication (2 * 4 = 8) 2. Power of (2**4 = 16) 3. *args and **kargs in functions definitions and function calls. 4. Imports (import * from blah). Did I miss anything?

You asked for a study. I gave you one. I guess that any study worth its time has criticisms and some that don't. Evolution is also criticized. I'm not comparing or equating them, just reminding you a criticism doesn't mean something is not

Reminds me of an old joke: Programmers are good and pacifist people. A good programmer will never write a function like "bombHiroshima". Instead he will write a function "bomb" that takes Hiroshima as a parameter.

I get daily / weekly digests for all of my Google Groups. I didn't need to see the UI in months. Looking at it it is a bit feature heavy, but since it doesn't interfere with my day to day I don't think I will be using breeze...

This holds true for Israel too. A lot of people in Hi-Tech are avid mountain bikers, including myself. It's one of those sports full with technology from bike parts to training computers to heart monitors. Also a great money sink :)

I hate stuff that auto play music full volume on opening the page. That said, looks like an interesting experiment. I'm glad that people are using the Web Audio API, hopefully the more people use it the more browsers will support it and it

First of all I hope you do get a job out of the leads here, you indeed sound like a normal real person. Niggler below did a good job of specifying some of my concerns of why I am skeptical, but I hope the biggest point I got across is that

Maybe skeptical is not exactly the right word, but I feel like having a post like that should not be part of HN.

I don't use Facebook much, so I wouldn't really care if this happened. Maybe people will join me in this empty GTalk ecosystem, at least until Google decides to monetize that :)

You know, I have all the sympathy in the world to up_and_up, and I wish him luck. If I would know about a remote position I might even had done something about it. But this seems fishy to me for a few reasons, and out of place. HN has a job

So that's why I didn't get anything done today. My project management tool is not for doers! All kidding aside, it looks pretty and well designed, but I don't see any value in yet another project management tool.

I'm not sure it will be more foolproof since images don't really need to have long horizontal or vertical lines, but it is indeed another great attack path.

Yes, I missed the obvious one :) As someone also mentioned it accepts "close enough" solutions so it basically boils down to 1/6 chance which spammer will consider almost perfect.

To be honest the only reason I didn't add "yet another misguided captcha attempt" to the title is because of the advertising aspect. We can and should nitpick captchas, even just if it is as an intellectual exercise. About the OCR - what I

Just to be fair - it is less friction than a typing captcha. I still think the security of it is pretty weak. Possible vulnerabilities include: * Moving the slider bit by bit and OCRing will solve 90% of the images I've seen. * If the image

The thing is, how do you even prosecute it? Where the company is based? Where the web servers are based? Where the email servers are based? Where it was served? The email client's server location?

stormen, send me an email and I'll give you some original ideas to implement. I'm starting to get depressed seeing a well designed, well coded (probably) yet another list aggregator, music service, social whatever.

fizzbuzz and challenge in the same sentence? After the last guy I interviewed couldn't code Fibonacci or even explain how to do it, I think I lost my faith.

Because accountswu is spamming this thread and most of the top level comments are his. I wish there was a way to report him. Looking at his history he isn't exactly what I'd want a fellow HN contributor to be. Anyways it isn't the first com

I still haven't seen your links but I think you are somewhat misinformed by seeing only one side of the issue. Israel (specifically Tel Aviv) is the biggest startup ecosystem outside of Silicon Valley. Do you really think that it got there

I am very worried that a community I like has this reaction to my country. All of the top level comments except yours and mine are negative towards Israel and totally off topic from the article. I definitely support closing this thread.

That's a good point. A lot of companies in Israel outsource QA, development and other things to Arab and Palestinian firms. Both Neocleus (my first job) and Intel (my second) had real partnerships with Arab and Palestinian firms.

This is pretty exciting for the Israeli scene. That space was long awaited and the (pre-)accelerator too. I'm looking forward to hosting events there (I'm one of the organizers of GDG Tel-Aviv). Spaces and accelerators like this, or Microso

Actually a pragmatic will see step 3 as unnecessary - you get to step 4 faster if you skip it, and assigning blame doesn't help solve the problem. After the problem is solved you have all the time in the world to think about the meta-things

I've been using south for a few months now and I didn't even know half those pitfalls could exist. I'm Using south just for migrating simple changes to my DB and it is wonderful for that, but it seems like there is more depth to what it can
