I think Elixir/Erlang + Redis pub-sub + PostgreSQL is the sane minimal subset for distributed and scalable systems. Just say no to Kafka.

I once worked in England with a guy called Thane. A cool Anglo-Saxon title meaning warrior lord. Any fame it might have probably comes from Macbeth. Now it is very rare, only 3/yr in UK and 43/yr in US.

There is sense in which the core essence of capitalism is derivable from the entropic laws of nature. Consider an active entity with a finite lifetime (e.g. child, factory). A production function can be defined as the net balance of flows i

I think Switzerland and UAE also (with SG) have large notes, with some commitment to continue cash payments. Strange bedfellows in the fight for freedom, but all welcome to the cause.

Most US states do not have red-light cameras, and some that did, have withdrawn them. For example, see the Redflex bribery case, and other legal challenges. YMMV in other countries: some are packed full of red-light and speed cameras, with

Traffic cameras usually have to recalibrate for every single one (e.g. for AI, retrain with new designs in the training set). In the future, I might expect designs (and fonts) to converge towards AI legibility, but these plates raise money

Perhaps interesting that Feyerabend/Gould were anarchist/communist. Both were excited that Kuhn showed the assumed linearity of progress was flawed, and it really needed revolutions, but only anarchist Feyerabend went all the wa

I think one of the most intetesting reactions to Kuhn is Gould's punctuated equilibrium, which applies the same idea to evolution. After the fact, it seems that both are obviously true, based on collective dynamics of reinforcement w

I am surprised to hear that Kuhn was influenced by Feyerabend. I always thought it was the other way around, because Against Method (1975) was so long after The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962). Also, the link in the article f
