I have a couple friends who are freelancers (as well as myself) that do consumer-based articles. For a good 500 word article you're looking at $25-40, depending on the writer and topic. With a tech/gadget article you may only need to pay $1

It costs a bit more than $0. So many people use the service, every long url on twitter is automatically shortened with the service. I think they have at least a single dedicated server, if not more. So definitely not $0, perhaps a couple hu

They don't. To be honest the majority of url shorteners don't make any money at all. I know because I run one. http://urli.ca It costs me nothing to run because it uses next to no resources on a server that I already pay for and I got the

The biggest part of building a bootstrapped startup is doing a lot of the work yourself. So if you're a web startup this means learning how to code. Without money all you have is time. If you want to save money in life you need to figure ou

I'm not hardcore enough to use emacs, I'm wimpy and love my TextMate gui. Cool little screencast though to show off some of the aspects of emacs.

From the Inc. article I read he really believes in the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." He doesn't know how a design change will effect the users or how changing the badly-cropped user images will effect click-throughs etc.

Yes, they are compatible. I have a 500GB drive hooked up to my AirPort extreme right now and it's recognized to work with TimeMachine. Unfortunately I need to run my network in mixed mode, 2.4ghz Wireless N so transfers are much slower.
