Oh agreed on all fronts :). Being able to add plugins is amazing, and there have been times I've almost added ttypescript for its plugin support. But then I remember the road that leads you down, and avoid it.

I'm in the camp that Babel 6 was "useless by default" in the bad sense. It's great that when you use tsc you know exactly what features are supported or not, and don't have to change anything, or worry about compati

Opening a can of worms for sure, but the reliance on Babel in the JS community is not a good thing to me. It's another reason why I prefer TypeScript, as in TSC, not whatever equivalent babel happens to support.

Was this reply to the wrong comment? Cause your first line is a total non sequitur to what you're replying to. And this is definitely a space people both a) can compare (compete?) and b) MS is playing catchup to (albeit with a great ad

Hopefully one day we can get over "sherlocking". When you build your business off of another business, you're still at the mercy of the other business.

Given that a locally running VS Code can interact with the host system, and a webpage cannot, I'm sure there will be some differences between the two. And like you said, the exception in features could be extensions. If that's the

Agreed. Branch names are temporary and ideally not persisted. Same with commit messages in many workflows. If your branch names are ever exposed outside your team (like environment per branch or something) then yes, maybe you should be mind

You can definitely pass them around and call public methods on them using refs, that's what useImperativeHandle is mimicking. Was the issue with `this` in componentWillRecieveProps not solved by using an arrow function? If so, that ju

Can you clarify on that last point a bit? Not that I extend React.Component these days, but far as I'm aware, the only "gotcha" of React.Component (vs other classes in JS) is that they shouldn't be extended. I guess, yes

Not sure where you're getting 1h12 from. First issue was reported at 12:18pm (my time) final update that fixed it was published at 3:08pm. Not that long, but my issue with this release snafu is that: - the build didn't pass CI in

Exactly, node's conventions are to allow a range of versions (semver compatible). True, if all dependencies were pinned, this wouldn't come up as often. That also means that there would be a lot more updating when security issues

Again, this only works for project skeletons, and not for any other package that happened to have a transient dependency on `is-promise` (which is a lot more than project skeletons).

I'm only finding about it today TBH. Usually I go for what this library does: function isPromise(obj) { return typeof obj?.then === 'function' }

package.json only lists top-level dependencies. package-lock.json tracks all dependencies, and dependencies of dependencies. is-promise is one of those dependencies of a dependency, which you don't have much control over.

We did the same at a previous company. This was Redux, so maybe a little different, but it went very smoothly. We stored a subset of the redux store locally, and a further subset of that was sent to the server. This data is quite prone to c
