My company (W17 hopeful) is working to help med device vendors ensure basic crypto and security practices. I agree with @teuobk below; these problems are not unique to St. Jude. BTW we're hiring. If you're reading this comment thr

Medical Physicist here. The position isn't "non-ionizing radiation can't cause cancer". It's "There is no known mechanism by which non-ionizing radiation can cause cancer." Maybe we'll discover a mech

Holy crap. This is the best $0.89 I've ever spent. I'd like to nominate GoatAttack.com as an IPO candidate. Are you listening, Goldman?

I see this a bit differently. Imagine getting to build $119M in value for yourself without needing to worry about profitability, by leveraging other people's money. Expressed that way, it sounds like a pretty good opportunity.

I'm not quite understanding why the "Lower Class" trends seem to be so flat, while the middle income trends are down. Where are the middle income families going if not the lower income bracket?

I agree with most of this. However, teachers' unions have done their best to prevent schools from paying teachers with less common skill sets (like STEM) more than teachers with more common skill sets (like PE). It's this aspect o

This is definitely fair. The teachers at the top of the pay scale made $97k, and got a pension equal to about 90% of their last year's salary. But banks don't accept a great pension and summers off as downpayment on a house.

My day job is pretty all consuming. My plan is to make enough money in the first half of my career that I could afford to teach (either high school or adjunct in college) while still living the lifestyle I'm happy with. I've been

I was a physics teacher immediately after undergrad. I think I was a good teacher,as my students seemed to enjoy class, and excelled in physics later, in college. When I left after year 3 I was making $42k a year. While that is a good salar

I was very disappointed to see no mention of the fact that the US is one of the only developed nations that taxes companies' offshore profits. The trillions in profits held offshore by American companies is an unintended consequence of

As naive as it may be, I had never considered this. I think Fred is a trustworthy enough guy that he may not consciously be thinking about profiteering, but I can't figure out any other reason a tech investor would support back doors.

This article highlights the need for two changes in the startup world: 1) We need a different term for the "post-money valuation" that VCs place on a company after fundraising. It is not a valuation in the same way that a public c
