Voicing an opinion that announces the downfall of a large collective of states is spreading fear though. Maybe you're right and we're heading into a scary future, but it doesn't change that expressing that opinion is spread

I agree that it is not very clear - which is why I wrote "are often considered" etc. Also the Apple example was brought up to explain a nations' interest in low tax rates, not about whether they're legal or not. Parent w

'fraud' and 'illegal' might be problematic words here. The tax evasion schemes used by large corporations are often considered exploits of loopholes - i.e. technically legal. Countries try to offer companies a system to

How much of the information about EU politicians robbing people by artificially devaluing currency, influx of illegal refugees, and whatever you could go on about, has been shared and spread through Facebook, generating attention for that i

I agree with the repressive (to their own people), but I'd be curious how you determine NK or Iran is more evil than the US.

Every nation has to trust the country with nukes that they won't invade or destroy them. If you were Iran, would you trust the US not to try to invade or topple your country? Iran isn't alone with the rhetoric of 'destroy you

Yes, there definitely were more factors that went into that decision. But destroying factories and shipyards in populated cities wasn't the primary factor that went into the choice of weapon.

Every time someone brings up "wants to wipe out xyz", I wonder how that would play out. North Korea wants to nuke the US and SK, Iran wants to nuke Israel, Pakistan wants to nuke India, etc. But playing the scenario in your head l

I fully agree with you, except to the Lidar argument. It holds currently, because Lidars are relatively new (compared to cameras). Considering the progress cameras have made, and apply a similar progress to Lidar. It's ultimately a rac

I have no knowledge in this area. What can contractors do (that employees can't)? I'm trying to come up with things, but my list starts and ends with "work for competitors".

FYI, google has a dashboard that shows all/most/some of the data in your account. Go through it and remember the US government can access it (likely with some form of Warrent or paper required)

Gödel's incompleteness theorems are really something. Ultimately (iirc) it boils down to this: If an axiomatic system is complex enough, it cannot be both consistent and complete. I.e. either you have statements that you can't pro

DuckDuckGo still has the functionality, but I don't think they pay content providers. From that I conclude that it's not just a function of "willing to pay vs not", but that "got sued" also plays a role. Conten

If something seems just stupid, it is always a good idea to try to understand the change. This one wasn't really voluntarily [1] (Though I agree for some recent changes, it seems impossible to find a reasonable explanation :/ ) [1

The "Gigagram" makes me smile. The one thing where the metric system annoys is the "ton" and "kilo-ton" labeling. A ton is 1000 kilograms, hence a megagram, and a gigagram is 1000 megagrams.
