Use CRF for classifying/labeling. http://crf.sourceforge.net/ Its extremely well written, easy to define features etc. Reasonably good support too.

We are doing IPhone development. Its a web app. To the best of my knowledge, there is no official SDK available (yet) to build native IPhone apps. Is there any specific reason why you want to build a native app?

$100K is not enough to sustain two employees for an year. $50K is less than the annual average living expenses for a person. (Just do the Math, housing, insurance, etc.). I would strongggggggggly recommend to try raising something between

That's a very keen observation. I am not sure about the 'lot easier' part though. One thing that's common among all these "mega-valuations" startups are star-founders who have had billion dollar exits in the past.

I really wish someone made wise estimates of their current revenue/profit numbers or at least provide the thought process that went behind coming up with $500M+ valuation.

- Get CS3. You would waste more time figuring out how to get the stuff done using free tools. Plus you might not be able to avail use of adobe's help lists/groups. Your time is valuable. - Instead of trying to create from scratch, get .swf/

Don't write your own crawler. Use nutch. It is designed to scale and do mapreduce kind of parallel processing. I would strongly recommend you to take a look before writing your own. http://lucene.apache.org/nutch/
