100% agree. The biggest mistake that Theranos made was over-promising. Startups in other vertical do it all the time, but you can't get away with it in consumer healthcare because lives are at stake.

Just like in engineering, the initial investment into a go-to-market strategy is only the tip of the iceberg; it's the maintenance and support required to make it successful that kills you. At both my former and current company, I'

As a product geek, I love this. It's an awesome application of computer vision to solve an ancient and expensive problem in a new way. Just building the product and getting enough labeled data to a level when you can demonstrate proof

This is why, all other things being equal, it's better for an engineer to work for an engineering driven company (Facebook) rather than a sales driven one (Oracle). The opposite is probably true for a salesperson.

As a former startup founder, I totally empathize - it's always clearer with hindsight but it's important to honestly reflect so you can apply the lessons learned to the next turn of the ferris wheel. > We set out to build a goo

Startup equity is just an at-the-money call option. Worth something but not a ton on day 1. Due to tax guidelines, companies are highly incentivized to grant employees options struck at the last 409A valuation price. For companies who have

No, you're not crazy. While I disagree that managers will be less important, I think that you're making a good decision because technically differentiated managers will be more valuable. Even if you go back to PM, the ability to

The issue isn't so much YC's investment in projects that may not have scientific rigor, but that of individual investors via crowd-funding platforms. At an extreme, this results in a company like GoBe raising $1.1 million on Indi
