A big problem we've hit with allowing users to write Typescript (or any other general-purpose programming language) for our product is that it's too powerful. Observationally, it seems that all that power eventually gets used, a

Agree - one of the things we've found using Starlark at Kurtosis is even the small jump from Python to Starlark makes people think, "What's this Starlark? I don't want to learn a new language", and we have to show t

danielgtaylor, I hope you don't mind me submitting - I stumbled across Huma today while investigating if anybody had made the idea I was contemplating; turns out you have and it's way better than my own idea!

This sleep thing is so intriguing. I've treated sleep as somewhat optional - try to get 8h... but if I don't, I'll make it up later at $unspecified_date. Unsurprisingly, my Fitbit registered that, for 2023, I got 6.5h of aver

Yep, I agree. I've been chatting with a friend about Nix (I'm a novice) and it sounds like it has the capacity to treat many things as Just Files connected in a dependency web, which is cool.

We're trying to do this at Kurtosis! ( https://github.com/kurtosis-tech/kurtosis ) The idea is to write your environment in Starlark (a minimal Python subset) and we'll handle running it on Docker or Kubernetes

How would you feel if you could use Starlark (if you're familiar with it) to parameterize a la Helm, and then can add more Starlark commande later to update previously-defined infra a la Kustomize? Full disclosure: our startup is tryin

Big +1. We switched to Starlark for our DSL last year and have been very pleased. Users who've never used Starlark before come in with some 'what, another language?' trepidation, and end up pleasantly surprised.

I do think there's a power to the readability that makes it more approachable (but which eventually burns you). We were rewriting our AST at Kurtosis last year, and the default choice we were going to go with was of course YAML. But we

For me, one of the true advancements of JSON/YAML over XML is how its features are orthogonal to each other I don't have to ask "should this be a tag property, or a subtag"? Which, to your point, isn't to say that

Big +1 to "there are no off-hand requests"; this was a failure that I realized I was making as a leader a month ago. I was (ostensibly) trying to give my team ownership, blasting them with the multiple things that needed doing, bu
