It’s like it’s 1997 with IE4 and DHTML again! Wallpaper choice was a big thing 25 years ago. You could run 2 or 3 programs at the same time, but 16M of ram didn’t go that far, so I guess I returned to the desktop quite a lot. Some habits pe

Too high for a server (yes some of us still use servers), a reboot should be back in a couple of minutes and that’s with crazy long bios posts.

Had a problem with systemd-resolved yet again the other day. Blatted resolv.conf and job done, but between systemd and related things (network manager etc) it just breaks the way things have worked for decades and gives many people no benef

The UX for teams is terrible compared with slack, but it pains me to say it, I find the video conference part better than zoom. I use the linux clients.

90% of people just care that google.com works. 90% of the rest want their office vpn to work. The number of people asking for an ipv6 address on the average ISP can be approximated to zero.

Yet many implementations don’t do it and still do nat, and stateful network firewalls pretty much mean it’s meaningless anyway.

35 year olds on 90%ile income jobs can’t afford to live on their own. Millions are worse off compared to even the 1980s because the productive gains are going to the wealthy.

No it doesn’t. If I spend $100 on takeout because I don’t have time to cook a fresh meal that increases gdp but makes my life worse.

All “growth” in gdp seems to go to rich people. Normal people have seen stagnant wages and increased costs from the owners. Why should I care if gdp isn’t increasing when I don’t see any gains whether it does or not?

There are about 1.1 billion passenger cars in the work and over 8 billion people. Thus most people don’t need a car. The requirement for “most people need a car” depends on the definition of most people. Live in a small town in Arizona? Sur

I go to the cinema about 4 times a year with the kids in the UK, usually to see marvel films. I don’t recognise that experience. The whole thing costs about £50 sure (maybe nearer £60 nowadays), and we combine it with bowling and a meal out

In the U.K. YouTube is £16 a month — that’s $20 a month. I use YouTube far less than Netflix, Disney, Amazon, bbc, all of which are cheaper. Many YouTube videos come with burnt in adverts too.

What do you do when people decide to make the exact ama E mistake again? If you can’t refer to “last time this was disaster” (aka “I told you so”) how do you prevent it.

Some adverts are informative. I saw a poster a few years ago saying Jason Donovan was in Joeseph in London as Pharaoh, I likely wouldn’t have known that without that poster at the station. I didn’t mind skippable YouTube preroll adverts. No
