Even if you can see his face clearly, how will you find him? It's just a face.

That's so weird because I see text and images from fb domains in google search results all the time. Likewise LinkedIn.

I mean, it's a search engine right? Google scrapes Facebook at global scale.

China + Face++ + Sensetime are doing this. The tech is out there.
96.
by microdrum 7y ago
Right. I mean, cameras are everywhere. Probably, computers will look at and parse their feeds, not just slow humans with eyeballs. Better this than Sensetime.

Excellent post. This was obvious from the beginning and is causing a rerating of the vcs who invested in these economically and technically checkered deals.[1] [1] https://medium.com/craft-ventures/the-other-electric-ve

This, coupled with new software-defined microinverters that work whether the grid is up or down [1], is changing the game worldwide for safe solar AC. I for one am very excited. [1] https://enphase.com/en-us/ensemble-t

But any potential buyer can build his or her own and get the same level network effect. Bird doesn't have a network effect. You know this because you don't go out looking for a Bird. You go out looking for a scooter. Or you buy yo

When will this insanity end? It's basically a flat round, so they avoided a down round. But would anyone care to hazard a guess as to what liquidation pref Sequoia is getting on this?

Do you purchase subscriptions to news websites, or do you follow the archive.is links on HN? Of course I didn't purchase Overcast. There are better free alternatives.

Although I personally don’t like Overcast because of the ad injection (which I consider immoral) and the hypocrisy of its author being anti-ads in general (not to mention having built Tumblr, which turned out to be a porn obfuscation servic

It’s not going to melt down. The whole line just falls way short of benchmarks for the chips. Linus Tech Tips did a good video on it.

How cool. I wonder if I’m the only one: I just placed an order for my first Windows laptop in 11 years. The Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 7. Apple’s overthin design, heavy aluminum, bad thermals, throttled chip, soldered parts scam is over for me.

The big question is when will the VCs take the write down on their quarterly pro forma financial statements!

The only thing special about Bird is the quality VCs that got into it at seed and series a. Investors will be taking a second look at these funds. If second and third tier VCs had been Bird's primary backers, we would all care a lot le

Oh my god. Please, investors, do not put more money in. It's enough already. Anyone who studied economics and looked at this from the beginning knew it was a poor idea not likely to succeed. The experiment is over!

I feel like Journal < https://usejournal.com/> is sort of the platonic ideal--what Evernote should have been. Search-first.
