Please don't conflate gps with navigation. They are entirely separate problems. I urge you to look into problems and familiarize yourself with the challenges therein before commenting.

As someone who has worked extensively with this team, it's nice to see their hard work coming to light. They are some of the most humble, intelligent people I've ever met.

You have no idea. This isn't Reddit. Please stop with the low effort speculative muck.

I just ate at The Modern in NYC the other day. The Modern is a Michelin star restaurant. I didn't smell cooking. Half the dining experience at Michelin restaurants is all about tightly controlling the inflow of stimuli to your senses.

I don't think you are correct. Plenty of places that used to oceans and seas have become land. This has given us access to aquatic fossils.

Perhaps rather anecdotal, but this is why I joined Uber, and did not take my Facebook or Google offers. It feels nice to work on tech that directly impacts lives and how a persons day flows. As opposed to, as you correctly put it, optimizin

Not hating on your comment - it's actually rather interesting and informative. What is also interesting to me is how you wrote it:"That company's name? Xxxx" after a description. This reads like click bait. I've not

It's really not. BUCK and other build systems make compile lightning fast, and when you have a complex multithreaded bug because of sloppy optimization, faster compiles won't help.

What's the word for this kind of phrase? One where the author of the sentence has some kind of skewed world view, and we get to see a glimpse of it?

Fertile Crescent* not Middle East. The Middle East is not really an agreed upon fixed set of places, theres a not-insigifnicant variance in how one can describe it.

Decent article - but she does try to stress the brexit references, as well as references to modern politics and the divisions thereof. Would have been a better piece if she stuck more to her points of analyzing "The Age of Rudeness&quo

Yes I have owned and suffered through plenty of it. The move part rings true - disassembly never ever leads to correct reassembly.

Are there other flat pack furniture brands? I did not know this. I had all IKEA up until I started replacing IKEA with already-built pieces from garage sales/ furniture stores/ family. Maybe I have just gotten unlucky, and fallen

Is port scanning dangerous? How can JS in a browser build a tunnel to anything?

I dislike IKEA furniture - It never seems to go well, and always in a different, hard-to-plan-for kind of way. Either the bed frame slats will crack at an odd place, or the bookshelf will bend under the weight of too many books, or perhaps

As someone who wrote the LTR/RTL text shaping for Uber Maps, I know the pains of this way too well. Off by one Unicode errors were causing Chinese characters to get appended to the end of Arabic words! Great read.

You must be a joy at parties. How is any of the data private when you willingly use their tools, sites, servers, etc? You open up google.com and type things in, what privacy do you expect? Or am I missing something you are referring to?

Was not familiar with the theory - I disagree with it. This site is a wonderful example of the opposite. My experience with reddit (6+ year old account, at this point) is that, just like in life, most people on reddit are fine. The illusion
