Driverless cars are just another segway. No one will buy one, because they do not solve a problem most people have.

You may also need the Sky dedicated F1 channel (Which you get with the sports package).

No, they did it in the hope that it would make him less prone to being compromised and giving away secrets to the enemy. That doesn't make it any less wrong, but to claim they were basically just a bunch of gay-haters is a bit silly.

Your comment is a fantastic summing up of the hyperbole coming from turing fetishists.

Throughout history, people sometimes make bad calls. With hindsight, it's easy to see what those were. Clearly some of his treatment was in the 'bad call' camp, but I don't think that was clear at the time. Do you think he'd rather be remem

Quite a few other people fought in the war, and quite a lot of people paid with their lives. Not to downplay Turings own contribution, but I wish the hyperbole and the "he was persecuted!" angle could be reined in somehow. Also if anything

I think perhaps you're the wrong audience. The advice is great for bootstrapped businesses who are looking to get profitable. It's probably not so great for "raising a round" venture backed "startups" who are playing the startup lottery. If

FWIW, you can also find an absolute ton of examples of startups that had plenty of money, and failed spectacularly. Having too much money is probably worse than not having enough. I think the difference is that HN is primarily venture backe

The case has big implications for any site that hosts user generated content. If users start using say github, to share movies, will the github founders be whisked away to jail and the site shut down without any due process?

I don't think so, The Daily Mail generally likes to make you feel scared. The Guardian generally likes to make you feel outraged. They're just playing on different emotions to sell papers. As regards quality, fact checking, bias, they're al

That "steep incline at the beginning of the graph" isn't big enough, or over a large amount of time to be worth caring about. Look at the charts. They're stagnant.

You could make similar claims about say The Guardian, or people who get their news from Reddit. Personally, I find the echo-chamber on the left to be far more worrying (Not to mention their constant condescending sneering, looking down on t

Have they fixed the ridiculous "Only one connection allowed at a time to an http server" change yet? :/ As far as I'm aware, the browser is fairly unusable because of this.

Would you still be happy if you'd spent millions getting those 440k users? For $41m investment, you could pay 410,000 people $100 to become a user.

Her hands were probably tied at the time, due to Abu Hamza etc which has now been dealt with. I fully expect her to clarify the position for Richard O'Dwyer soon and can't see him ever being extradited.

That jQuery code is so horrible. What about if CANVAS_WIDTH is from an insecure source? Maybe someone sets it to include some of its own <script> tags or other tomfoolery. HTML shouldn't feature in javascript code IMHO.

Other services, for example Amazon ec2, just deal with a DoS, and charge you for the traffic. Also, null-routing for 24 hours regardless of if the attack only lasted 2 minutes, is a little silly.

My only gripe with linode is that they are unable to handle DoS attacks. If you're subjected to an attack, your linode will be shut off (null routed) for 24 hours. After that time, they'll check to see if it's still being attacked. I really

I mean typical video games - ones you can "finish", or "win". WoW isn't a game you can finish or win, and it manipulates players into continuing to spend more and more time in it. That's the part I think is damaging.

Video games are fine. For me, WoW crosses a line to addictive obsession. I don't think games like WoW are good for society in general, just because they are too addictive and consuming. Before you know it, you've lost 5 years of your life

Personally, I've never been a fan of branching and merging. I don't think it works well at all for small groups. Maybe if you're in a big corp. though.
