You can always continue with !isActive && ($parent.toggleClass('open') || do_something_else()) but this is write-only code. This actually reminds me of some cool hacks with structure pointers and functions in the Linux kernel

If you watch the 2:1 display through an anamorphic lens you can see it stretched as it's a 4:3 one. Food for thought: can you create a Fresnel anamorphic lens?

I used a TN display in vertical position for a while and it sucked. If you moved the head just a little sideways the colors completely changed, and after a couple of hours I started to feel nausea. My doctor told me it was because the eyes

The Pentium architecture pops up from time to time (after the Netburst architecture Intel rolled back closer to the original Pentium architecture, and now Larrabee/MIC uses the same Pentium cores). At that time it was efficient because the

I don't think there are specific written rules for many countries. One hyperactive Romanian border officer requested me (in a threatening tone) to remove all the "large electronic equipment" from my backpack - even my SLR camera and all the

It's the price. And the nerdery. Old cheap toys that are still useful today bring up memories. Especially when you have to hack them.

Why would you do that? To use precious SD storage to install yet another x86 OS to painfully slowly (10-20MB/s and huge latency) boot up another computer, that in 99.99% of the cases already has an OS. And I don't think they implemented a s

If you take a look at an Internet penetration map[1] you will see that most of the cables around Africa have only a few big "customers": Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa. If you compare that map with a GDP map you will also see why:

Given the cost of such an operation, I don't think you can get some profit even if they were made of gold. As time passes, most of the cable is buried deeper and deeper under debris that falls on the ocean floor. This means that you cannot

I started playing with Arduino just a few weeks ago. I have many other kits/demo boards, mostly for PIC and ARM UCs, and while it's not that powerful, Arduino is the best for fast and simple solutions. It's nice to have the power of an ARM

We had programming classes in high school in Romania, teaching Pascal or C. They don't really work. Some students don't understand programming. Others don't care. Only 20% of a class can actually program very simple programs by themselves.

You don't have to know only the tools to use, but to know how to use them. Looking only at histograms only tells you what fills the memory, not how it does it. Exploring the object tree in the heap dump and thread dumps are way more useful.

A new competitor on the social networking market will compete for almost the same users that already have a Facebook account. It's very hard to find features that will attract people from the "not bothering" group.
