This seems like a case of the same idea evolving in parallel from first principles. I think that "Her" was written and mostly filmed in 2012, while the Black Mirror episode "Be Right Back" aired in Feb 2013.

In "Debt of Honor" and "Executive Orders", America survives this kind of catastrophe essentially okay, although it helps that they have Jack Ryan in charge.

Is Google loading these images when a user opens mail? (Have they just automatically opted users in to "read receipts"?) Or are these images pre-cached when mail is delivered (so that the fact that an image was loaded is just proo

Sounds like there's plenty of value to be extracted here! If only there were some kind of niche market where people could trade just these items, perhaps some kind of Magic: the Gathering Online Exchange.

Looking at a sample set of "Errors" ( http://demo.pa11y.org/52457e2b135a4b51b4000001 ), it would be interesting to be able to get "Why do this matter to users?" information. It may be obvious to a season

I thought this was a pretty cool story but was a bit bummed that the author didn't disclose the total cost of their trip. It would have been interesting to know how much they spent.

Can I ask how you spend per day in Lanzarote? We were just there for a weekend and "splurged" on an €88/night property, but it seemed like we could have done just fine at €30–40/night. What an interesting place.

The User-Agent field is a great way to detect a polite robot (and even, if it supports robots.txt, to ask it to avoid certain pages). So this header field is a useful signal for analytics. It's not at all trustworthy, but in practice i
