Speaking of other languages, given that the APE is a zip container, it shouldn't be too hard to have a "starkit" like setup where the binary part is basically node/python/perl/tcl and the main script and all re

It's a neat coincidence that this is on at the same time as an article about CP/M, because I think there could be some overlap in the programs that would be a good fit for cosmopolitan. Sure, there's server appliances like th

It's easier to parse, especially if your language has lots of keywords that might be part of identifiers, like "begin", "end", "for" and "and" or "or". I think with the Algol-like langu

That's an interesting post. Minimal BASIC really deserves its name, being quite a bit more limited than even the ZX80s or VIC-20's BASIC variants. Especially in the educational context, this lead to a lot of languages seemingly fo

I do wonder how big his influence was there. Or in general. Given that the company bet highly on this and it involved the whole Windows platform, there were quite a lot of cooks in the kitchen there. So a "designer" probably acts

Programming philosophy is an interesting thing, and I don't think it's just a dichotomy. Wirth does have some things in common with the Bell Labs crowd and doesn't quite fit in the same niche as Dijkstra-esque Ivory Tower des

Hmm, I've always appreciated Hejlsberg's implementation taste (at least in the first versions of his languages), but did he design that much from scratch? TP was a great compiler, but the language was pretty much taken from previo

We still don't do much more customer-facing, we just do a lot more internally. Just judging actually useful features, I'd put a lot of DOS software on favorable grounds compared to your average immutable functional serverless Kafk

Hmm, let me check, I think zsh does have associative arrays and floating point, two features that bash took quite a bit longer to get (and which aren't in the bash in OS X). So at least that's okay. Compound and active variables a

Also strips the path and you have to know the extension name(s). For my examples, "cut" would be appropriate. But those substitutions tend to work in anything POSIX, not just bash/zsh.

Sure that's counting all processes? My Safari process stays the same size no matter how many tabs, but I'll get a bunch of web content processes. Although that would apply to Chrome, too, of course.

Knew most of those, not much interested in "shell plugins". One thing that many people miss are parameter expansions. Those are in Posix, so pretty much any bare shell should be able to use that, too. So dash/bash/zsh&#x
