Nuclear power pollution is the best kind: dense and contained. Imagine I tell you we could put 10% of the world's trash in a olympic sized swimming pool. Pretty appealing eh?

The big con for a solar/battery grid isn't the cost, it's the raw materials. We need an absurd amount of copper/lithium/cobalt etc.. and we need to be mining orders of magnitudes more than we do now.

The US has been decommissioning nukes for ages now. They're expensive as hell to maintain and the US has enough to flatten the earth as is.

It's much easier to be a polymath when the subjects are an expert in are pretty relatively unexplored. Today people spend their whole lifetime studying a deep branch in a single field, because the tree of math/physics/bio etc

That's funny, my reasoning comes from the opposite end of the ego spectrum - creating a blog or any other kind of social media presence means putting myself out there and inviting attacks on my ego. So I avoid doing so to protect my eg

> Like, Shakespeare was not high art. We must stop treating him that way and kill the love of literature in children by forcing them dryly read “To be or not to be.” Is that not the same thing?

Whoever has less power has the responsibility. If the IRS sends you a notice about an audit or something (just as an example), and you miss that because of an unorganized inbox, that's on you. If an entrepreneur emails you for capital

Think you're missing the point about the "high art" comment, which is just that we should introduce people to shakespeare in the way it was intended - as entertaining theater, not boring undecipherable books. I can vouch for

> If YOUR environment isn't conducive to getting work done -- fix it! You listed a bunch of ways one can do this. I'll list one more: going to work in-person! I think we're in agreement here: environment plays a huge role

You're not necessarily wrong. At the end of the day we lost all nuclear expertise when the public turned against it 40 years ago. Per kwh fossil fuel disasters have killed more people and have caused more damage to the environment. Com

If Taiwan didn't have the world's most advanced semiconducter industry, which China (and all other nations) rely on, China would have long ago attacked it. So that's an easy example of how trade helps keeps peace.

What's wrong with that? There are many things that would go to shit without active maintenance. I'd also prefer to be around in 40-80 years, which is harder if we're burning fossil fuels than clean energy like nuclear.
