Well, the initial article speaks about an incident in a university, and it's not surprising that "safe spaces" would be popular there. University councils are infamous for being dominated by old white men who are used to shou

Well it's similar to US and UK English. c.f. how confused people in the US can be when they hear UK English for the first time if they were not exposed to it when growing up. On the other hand, while Quebec French has its regional expr

tl;dr: it's an article about a couple who bought a motel to spy on their guests, and did pseudo-documentation about their guests habits. There are no photos or anything inappropriate. Says a lot about sexual taboos in the US.

Some of my work VMs which are not intended to be generally accessible to the public are IPv6-only. It's not that I need to restrict access to them, just that they don't need IPv6, since anyone accessing them usually already has IP

Hmm, realized this after posting: my comment on /64 to /48 is rather off-topic, and the reason why the ISP allocates dynamically might be that they are using 6rd [1]. From what little I understand of it, 6rd calculates an IPv6 sub

Since there seems to be a lot of Ayn Rand articles lately, you might be interested in the excellent 3 part series by Adam Curtis called "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace". It includes a segment on Ayn Rand, including s

That's odd. What ISP is it? This goes against RFC recommendations (ex: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6177 - assign between /64 to /48) My ISP (DSL with teksavvy.com in Canada) offers a dynamic-ish /

And for those few times, you can still enter an IP directly. :) For those who like to memorise IP addresses, my favorite ping in ipv4 is 8.8.8.8, but in IPv6 I like using 2600::1. Shorter, and more fun! (2600 as in the Hacker Quarterly/

This is what GMail is doing: making sure that sending an email is like sending a letter (instead of a postcard). TLS email is not 100% secure (private, authenticated, etc), but not 100% insecure either. Verifying TLS for email is an easy st

I understand your point of view, but I feel like we often underestimate the level of harm that some types of misconduct can cause. A workplace should never tolerate any type of harassment (and few workplaces do). It's not just the act

Why give a monopoly on drugs to the black market? Drugs are a public health safety issue. They should be sold by the state, in a controlled way. Sure, black market will continue to exist, but they won't have a monopoly, and we will hav

Many cities have local gas taxes that are used to subsidize public transport. In Quebec for example, there is a tax applied only in Montreal (where the public transport system is almost usable, compared to other North American cities), so g

To some extent, this is similar to SSL/TLS certificates that can be used to authenticate the user (not just the server). If I recall correctly, http://startssl.com/ does that. It's not a very intuitive mode of aut

If your infrastructure has less than 5 years projected life-span, maybe you don't need to make it a #1 priority. Otherwise, if you don't start planning IPv6 now, in 5 years your infra is likely to be seen as an aging infra with to
