Yep, if you're not familiar with the store, it's kind of like a Walmart, but there's one in my neighbourhood and they provide decent value, especially for tools and outdoors stuff.

Naive question from a guy who doesn't shop often: what kind of stores are replacing Sears for general "house" stuff for an average price, average quality? More specialized shops in boxstores? (I don't like driving and th

A colleague from a previous job once told me: "when a developer gives you an estimate, always double and add one of that unit" (estimate = 2n+1). He told me this after a while, because he would often nag me to clarify if I meant 7

I'm all for progress, I dislike driving (and I do own a car), but that sounds like streets that would have no pedestrians or cyclists. I don't think it would work well in cities.

On a project I contribute to, we ask people to register on our main website, which has a pretty good anti-spam. We do that in part to get to know our contributors more and better engage (after all, we develop a FOSS CRM). Gitlab uses that a

We have over 700 users on https://lab.civicrm.org (a FOSS CRM for non-profits). While bits of the project still rely on Jenkins and Github, having most of our community on Gitlab really changes the dynamics of the project. At fi

We usually work in pairs, and invoice 90% to the coop of the amount that was invoiced to the client. That way everyone manages their own risk, but we can still rely on others if we get stuck, share common practices, etc.

In Canada, or at least where I am, cremation is a much more common method of disposal. We do ceremonies in a funeral parlor, sometimes there is an urn, sometimes not. There isn't attachment to the corpse. I don't see why compostin

Old version support has a cost for the company supporting it. I guess it shows to the maturity of the company when they do. It's not easy to pull off. As a dev on a mid-size project, I'd say that those UI changes often have two si
