I don't get it; when the Perl folk thought they had to reach the masses, instead of making Perl 5 more accessible to newbies, instead of covering Perl events (a comment on the blog mentions some specialized hardware for doing so - lol), ins

I'm going to draw an analogy from Larry Wall's own words: Python 3 is to Python 2 what Perl 6 is to Perl 5, a different language. Just because you had a bad experience with Python legacy code (yes, RHEL sucks), doesn't mean you get to discr

I follow all three (tptacek, @dakami, zedshaw), and at times I want to kill myself for using Twitter.

I don't know, but if I had to hazard a guess I'd say yes, based on the same general idea: if someone is smart enough to figure out that the (most) scenarios depicted in computer games are fantasy [1], I don't see any reason for her to not t

And redtube.com out of N is representative? Not to justify the grandparent's probably biased view (which I share btw), but arguing with ambiguous statements doesn't offer much to the discussion or our comprehension of the matter.

The way you phrased your original post gave me the impression you were dismissing the constructor solution for the same reason tptacek dismissed the rest. I certainly agree with your point, as you may have read elsewhere in the thread. Othe

Well, neither C nor C++ are assembly, and vice versa. That's my usual response to this kind of "arguments", in every such question; boy do they come up a lot. Regardless, I'll repeat it; maybe it'll stick this time: i < 0 is a co

I swear to god, I was tired of this argument before I even finished reading it. If you take your example to the extreme, you should consider that a processor also operates in a loop. Maybe every solution is a glorified series of iterations.

If you want to get into language-lawyer mode, expressions are most certainly not conditional statements [in C]. But what's the use of arguing? "More gimmicky" answers don't count into solving a gimmicky problem? Who even keeps score? edit:

Maybe you wish to elaborate on what else is wrong with the article, other than a nitpick on what the author admitted was a spur of the moment?

Or as it was cleverly put before the author: " Primary rays cache; secondary rays thrash " Some interesting things to note, at least from my point of view: * GPUs should not be considered like the next generation CPUs at this stage. * Tryin

While you make fair points that I mostly agree with, I have a tiny nitpick: Lua isn't really a simpler Javascript; although I understand the point you were trying to make so I won't argue over it. :-)

About 7 years old. I learned on a CPC 64 my uncle had - he had lost the CP/M tape, so all I was left with on first contact with the machine was a BASIC interpreter prompt (and the manuals). PEEKed and POKEd my way out of there pretty fast..
