Thanks for sharing. Are you from the US? It is not in line with my experience. Employers here (in the Netherlands) care very much about experience with specific technologies. It is common that job offers demand a couple of years experience

This sounds petty, but thanks for sharing. Quite shocking and eye-opening (although I don't think it's fair to compare income directly like that).

Good observation. I'm in the Netherlands.

After my graduation, I planned to have some months off to work on hobby stuff, and build a small portfolio with programming projects. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish my thesis in time (which is my own fault, but at my university

You're right. I wasn't aware that the WebPack licensing program is for Vivado as well. Thanks for the clarification.

It always bothers me how things could be automated better if people just put in a little more thought. For example, where I work, we use both entity framework and raw SQL scripts. A common chore is to delete all migrations, delete the datab

Is ~15 dollars an hour considered good? It seems pretty high from a European perspective. In my country, minimum wage is about 10 eur/hour, and 15 eur/hour is normal for a junior developer.

I see, but what has Fabrice Bellard to do with this? His association with Amarisoft is unclear to me. Has he actually made something, or is this just a 'hey, this is cool'?

I usually love Fabrice Bellards stuff, but I have to admit that I don't really understand the how and why of this project.

Wow, $8K per month is a crazy amount of money (for a developer in Europe), especially to work on a project of your choice.

The forums are also excellent. They are a little bit like the Arch Linux forums: People can be a bit snarky, but pretty much everyone is extremely smart and pretty helpful. Noobs are tolerated if they are willing to put in some effort.

I have been thinking about making such a laptop as well. Some random notes: 1. IMHO, most software is crap that is only tested on i7's with 16GB of RAM. It will likely be slow on everything that has lower specs. 2. ARM =/= RISC V.

You're absolutely right, and that's exactly why I am enthusiastic about these fields. I think there is a ton of potential, and that these fields will be booming once the industry discovers this. Of course, the point is not to prov

AI, machine learning, and neural networks are, of courwe, booming, but I consider them to be hyped. I consider type theory and formal verification to be more promising (but more academic). Distributed systems and everything having to do wit

Make the objective of your talk clear. If you're giving an introduction to some technology, it is helpful to also point people to resources to learn more. If you need to explain or 'sell' your topic, do so, but don't ove

I certainly wish you the best! A lot of people say they support Linux and open source, but are not willing to put significant effort in themselves (that includes me, to be honest).

Though I have only skimmed through the textbook, it looks very well written. I admire the effort you have put into it, and that you have made it available for free. The same thing holds for the text on number theory (although it looks like

You are talking about rationals and algebraic numbers, which are just a tiny subset of the real numbers. Your point about computable vs non-computable numbers is valid, but I think the author meant that you will never encounter a real numbe

Maybe I'm a bit conservative and/or sour, but I think this is a bad idea for two reasons. 1. It will require a lot of developer effort and testing on this specific device. I regard this as a move in the bad direction: Computer int
